Secondary IF

consult with geneticist tomorrow

Any advice?  we're considering doing PGD-genetic testing on embryos.  I have a lot of reservations.  Our Re is recommending we do this, but I'm not sure we need it.  We had a lot of losses, but I think a lot of them were from my thyroid and luteal phase being way out of whack, not necessarily chromosomal issues.  Anyway, not sure what to ask or how to handle this.....

What are your reservations?  Not that we'll be able to give answers, but I've found that the 2IF ladies are quite insightful, and have helped me over more than a few stumbling blocks.  Let us know!  =-)

The little research I've done showed a lot of stuff about how it doesn't help with recurring miscarriage.  There's a pretty large margin or error-they could identify genetically messed up embryos as fine and fine ones as messed up.

The process kind of bothers me.  They cut a hole in the embryos and suck out a cell or two.  Just doing that can destroy them.

When our doctor first mentioned it, it seemed like a good idea.  Now I'm not so sure.

  • I don't have any experience with this so I can't give you much insightful advice, but I just wanted to tell you good luck at your consult.  I hope it goes well and you get the answers that will help you make your decision.

  • Thanks! I'd been against doing PGD until I talked to him.  Now I'm thinking it's something we want to do.  The doctor said it lowers our odds of having another m/c from 27% to 9%
