Private rooms & celebration dinner?

I was lurking on the May board and a bumpie was complaining about her loud hospital roomie and the roomie's 1 million guests.

Got me to thinking...how many of you ladies are not going to be in a suite/private room?

Does your hospital give a celebration dinner?  Any other special perks?

My hospital has all private suites and the parents get a celebration dinner of either steak, lobster or chicken and a bottle or champagne.

Re: Private rooms & celebration dinner?

  • I'll be in a semi- private room, but the hospital is huge and has 20-something semi-private maternity rooms, and unless they have 21 patients or more with semi-private coverage, they won't give you a roomie. They also are pretty strict about their 2-at-a-time visitor policy, because they're huge on rooming-in and don't want a ton of people waking someone else's baby up.

  • Wow! Sounds like a nice hospital!  That's certainly something you wouldn't find in a Canadian hospital.  Socialized medicine has its perks, but not steak dinners!  Enjoy!  My last baby was born on Thanksgiving Day, and my SIL brought turkey dinner over after the birth.  Best turkey I have ever eaten!!!  Food is amazing when you've just given birth!!

  • I was concerned about the rooms where I will be delivering.  DH warned me that the rooms were not private (he was a security guard for a few years there before getting hired by the police department).  I was happy to learn when we had our tour a few weeks ago that all the rooms are private.  Some are bigger to allow for doubling up if needed...but at 34 rooms...really don't think that will be necessary.

No celebration dinner...but don't really care about that.

Don't be!  I am VEGETARIAN lol. DH will enjoy the chicken though lol.

  • My hospital has private rooms, and you can elect to do a celebration dinner for an extra fee.  Honestly, I'd rather just send someone out to pick up food for me than pay an arm and a leg for slightly upgraded hospital food.

  • Definitely private!!!  That's all we have.  Was the poster Canadian?  I know group or semi-private rooms are more common there.

As for the dinner...I have no idea.  I'll have to ask (I doubt it thought).  I'm giving birth at Presby Rockwall.  Where are you going?  Wherever it is, it sounds nice and I'm wishing I had looked in the Plano area.  Haha. :)

Baylor Frisco.  FYI Baylor McKinney just open and is accepting patients with an EDD of 5/15 or later.  I hear they are going to be just as nice (something to keep in mind for your next one)

I thought about Presby Plano but its too far if there is traffic. I am glad I didn't choose Presby Plano b/c I ended up having to drive myself with contractions 7 mins apart to L&D.

  • Our hospital is only private rooms. They mentioned on the tour that they serve a celebration meal (no extra cost) but I don't know what it involves! I'm hoping there is a vegetarian choice for me!

  • Oddly enough with how small my town is, and how small the hospital here is, I will have a private room. There are only two rooms for after you give birth, and only one labor and delivery room. I have NO clue if there is a celebration dinner or not, that would be really cool though. If not, I will just have someone bring me something awesome from home...I live like 5 minutes away from the hospital, hell I'm sure if need be, I could walk my happy butt there while in labor and it wouldn't be a big deal.

Thanks.  I always wanted to do Baylor (or a Baylor branch) because I was born at Baylor Dallas.  However, my OB only gave me 2 options.  I honestly probably won't stick with her for the next one though.  So, I may have to look into ones off 190 or something.

  • I have no idea what the rooming situation is like at my hospital...I knew I should have gone on the dang tour!

But they do offer a celebration dinner for a fee...its an optional thing that you have to sign up for.  I havent even asked DH what he thinks about it yet.

  • Mine has all private rooms as well as an optional celebration dinner (for 75.00) as well as optional massages and mani/pedis (didn't check prices on those). It is run  very much like a hotel, the front desk looks like a hotel front desk and there is concierge service. A little over the top in my opinion but I am not complaining about delivering there either!

  • I have Kaiser and the hospital I will deliver at has all private rooms and does the celebration dinner. I consider myself very lucky.
  • We get private rooms and a celebration dinner. The best entree is steak and lobster. A co-worker told us about the steak and lobster and we thought he was messing with us, lol. Our Dr gives us a mini bottle of champagne too (at least the did for DS's birth). I can't wait!

It's pretty likely considering there is only 1 in North County. I am delivering at Kaiser Anaheim on Lakeview.

The one hospital in town you have a private room that are huge and you give birth in that room and stay in there until you go home.  Another hospital I was told about a celebration dinner of steak and lobster. I will not be delivering at these hospitals because for 1 my doctor only goes to one hospital and 2 I am high risk and I want to be at a hospital with a nicu.

Then yes we are.  Smile I have known some people that even being in North Orange county the for some reason are crazy and want to go to Irvine to deliver.

  • All the rooms in the hospital I'm delivering at are private rooms, you labor and deliver in them.  They're really nice, I'm actually quite excited because the beds are even pretty comfy.

As for the celebration dinner, I forgot to ask, but I'm pretty sure they do.  I don't think I'll be getting it though, I'd rather send DH or his son out to get something. Smile

  • All private or Semi-Private. No idea on celebration dinner though. I don't remember it being anything special after DD was born. So i'm assuming not. But that's ok.

  • I've never heard of a celebration dinner at a hospital!  We don't have one, but DH can run out and round up our own celebration dinner!

All L&D rooms at our hospital are private.  Most post-partum rooms are private, but there is one room that can be shared if the space is needed.  Sounds like that's a pretty rare occurrence, but it is a possibility.  I hope that doesn't happen!

  • Our new hospital will open on May 22, it will have all private rooms.  The current hospital has some private and some shared rooms.

I'm assuming I will have this baby after May 22 so I will have a private room, not sure about the dinner.

  • The hospital I'm delivering at has all private rooms. I'm thankful for that so DH, the baby and I can all stay together in the room without worrying about disturbing anyone or vice versa. I have no idea about what they'll be feeding us there, though.

  • My hospital has all private rooms, a celebration dinner (which we've never eaten, I prefer for DH to go pick me up food at one of the resturaunts near by), massage services and a super cute (and tasty!) mini-birthday cake that you get the night you give birth!

We also get a silver baby spoon & a newspaper from the day the baby was born.

  • My hospital has private rooms, but I have not heard of any celebration dinner.  That's fine with me - I plan on celebrating with a big sub and some sushi anyways!

  • All private rooms at my hospital. Haven't heard about a celebration dinner but have heard that they have lots of different food you can ask for. On the tour they said we can have pizza delivered, all the delivery guys know the nurses by name - DH's eyes lit up at that one, lol Smile

  • We have private rooms for delivery and recovery.   They look like hotel rooms! They also give us a celebration dinner and we can sign up for a massage.  The maternity wing is only 3 years old, so it's REALLY nice.  DH will have a couch that pulls out to sleep on and he's offered all sorts of snacks/drinks/juices free of charge while he's with me.  The visitor's waiting room is also beautiful with flat screen TVs and an expresso machine.  Yes, I'm very glad we picked this hospital instead of the stinky one closer to our house.  Too bad they can't wait to kick you out once you've had your baby. LOL

  • My hospital has all private rooms and some larger suites you can upgrade too. Also they do the same celebration dinner of steak, lobster or chicken with champagne.

OP are we delivering at the same hospital. I'm in Plano too! I'll be at Plano Medical Center!

they also offer an in-room spa menu. manis, pedi's, facials, massages... which i thought was cool

i'll find out more when i go on my tour, but that would be awesome if they did a celebration dinner! well awesome for dh anyway, i'll be on my clear liquids diet after the cs Sad

  • Ours has all private rooms, except one...so if there are a lot of babies born at the same time as mine, I may have to share a room...and my hubby wouldn't be allowed to stay :(

Our hospital does a celebration dinner as well with choice of steak, lobster, etc...

  • Our hospital has a newly remodeled (this year) maternity wing and all rooms are private.  I'm not sure about a celebration dinner, but I do get a complementary mani/pedi and massage for delivering there.  The massage is off-campus and can be scheduled during the pregnancy or after delivery.  Looking forward to it!
