Resisting the urge to send carebear2 a message letting her know that she is not likely to find a Job anywhere with that spelling...My current daycare provider is just as bad at spelling - which is one of the reasons we're switching!

I found my IHDC on the craigslist DSM page. She is wonderful. One of the main reasons I even emailed her to begin with was that her ad was beautifully written and looked very professional. After emailing back and forth a few times, I decided she didn't sound like a complete idiot like most of the other CL people I'd contacted! Sold. (other reasons too, obviously, but this definitely helped her!!)

I'm actually in the process of revising her ad and emailing it back to her..

LOL That is awesome! Even if she could spell and use proper grammar it is a poorly composed job wanted ad. Don't say you lost your job unless you're prepared to explain why. Among other things. Oy! But, omg, that is so funny, are you really going to email her a new ad?!
That's bad. When I was in college, my supervisor (of a daycare center) asked me to proof-read a paper that she wrote for a class. After I read it I totally lost respect for her and couldn't believe she was my boss! So many grammatical errors! And the worst was that she always pronounced the word "specific" as "pacific" and I just thought she had a speech impediment or something. Nope..there it was in the paper: spelled pacific!!

The actual e-mail I sent to her... I feel like I made a difference today.
Dear Cara,
Although I am not interested in a nanny for my child, I would like to help you market yourself a bit better. Please do not take any of this the wrong way. While you included a lot of good information about yourself, there are too many grammatical errors for it to be even remotely professional. If the reason for you losing your job was because of downsizing I would include that, but if you were fired for anything else I would not include it, but let parents who contact you know about it. As a future parent looking for childcare, I would not consider hiring from an ad that seems as though a 7th grader wrote it.
First of all, thank you for taking the time to read my ad. I am Cara Gaskin. I recently lost my job working at a small daycare center in Des Moines (due to downsizing). I am currently looking for a full time nannying position, but I will consider part time work as well. I have been in childcare for the past 12 years. I have experience with children of all ages and in many different childcare settings and I loved all of them! I am a hard worker with excellent attendance. I am trained and certified in CPR and First Aid. I have mandatory child abuse reporting certificates available upon request. I'm available all days of the week and am willing to work on the weekends and occasionally overnight if needed. I am willing to negotiate a pay rate with you as we both see fit. I have excellent professional references available upon request. I've included my contact information below so you may contact me at your convenience.
Thank you again for taking the time to read and have a wonderful day!! Cara
I once responded to an posting on Craigslist from someone in search of a photography assistant. I've done a lot of stock photography work and while my field is really graphic design, I thought it would be a fun way to pick up some extra money and gain more experience shooting people. From the ad, I gathered that I would be shooting second body and doing bulk processing work for a professional.
In hindsight, I seriously think the woman posting the ad had someone else write if for her because it was nicely put together. When I called her, she explained that she would set up at the local pumpkin patch (without anyone's permission?), take photos of kids, print them out on her little HP portable printer and then ask the parents to buy them as they were leaving. She said that she didn't have money to pay me, but if everything worked out we could go to Country Cookin' afterwards, her treat.
Wow! That makes my spelling & grammar mistakes look like nothing! LOL.
I also don't think I could consider it professional coming from "carebear". I'm sorry, but it takes 10 seconds to create a new email with a more professional sounding name.

Seriously? That's hillarious! Personally if I were one of the parents, I'd be pissed someone was randomly taking pictures of my kid. Who does that?!?

Yep, I think she was asking me to be an accomplice for the cost of a lunch buffet.
Re: A gem of a craigslist ad
Apparently spell-check is beyond her...
Oy.
I feel the same way
This ad scares me
