If you have one would you recommend it? I know they say it's "safe" while BF buy it still worries me. We really dont want another child any time soon, and honestly the condoms don't get used the way they should to protect against pregnancy. I saw my OB today and she is on her 2nd one and loves it. and She also said it's probably the best/easiest option for me right now. WWYD? I'm just looking for EFFer thoughts/opinions. Thanks

Re: Mirena?

I have the paragard, hormone free, lasts for 10 years. I've had mine for 2 and have never had a problem with it. The only downer is that you have a heavy period for a a day or two. In my cycle I have one heavy day and then normal the rest. I know with the Mirena you have no/light period. I went with this one specifically because it's hormone free.
I wasn't crazy about the whole IUD thing at first, but I hate condoms and other forms of protection similar to that. And I DO NOT want anymore kids, lol. So yeah, I vote for it.
I had Mirena in for three years, and I loved it. Not only that, it was the only birth control I have ever used that didn't fail.
As a kicker, I had it taken out so we could try for a baby, and I got pregnant within 10 days of getting it out...which was way sooner than I had thought.
Pros: Two light periods, then no more.
Cons: It killed my sex drive.

I had one after DS and while I had no side effects while on it (and got no periods while on it either), it took me 90 days to get my cycle back when I got it removed.
Also, one of my best friends had one and had an ectopic pregnancy with it. Really scary.
I've had one since 6 weeks pp.
I don't know about hormone transferal. I know the hormone release is significantly less than taking BCP. Have you considered a paraguard (copper) IUD which doesn't use any hormones?
do it. my cramping is no worse than it ever was before I had mine put in, actually most months I don't cramp at all, just that achey bloaty feeling right before I start that makes me feel yuck. Like I said above, the heavy bleeding is bad for one day during the cycle, it's not that bad, annoying, but not bad. Where a pad that day, lol.
NO LOWERED SEX DRIVE with the paragard.
added note: I am prob one of the few who WANT to get my period every month. It let's me know if I should be worried or not, lol.
I guess it depends on how important not getting pregnant is to you.
To us, not getting pregnant again is REALLY important. So I have the mirena.
I bled (spotted) about a month, that wasn't cool. now i love it.

I've had mine a little over 2 years and LOVE it. When it was first inserted I had some light cramping and pain but nothing major. I was EBF when I got it put in and continued to nurse till DS was 16 months old. I have not had a period since before getting pg with DS. I think the EBFing helped with not having the sometimes mentioned heavy first few periods.
