XP: Her cries are like nails on a chalk board

Please. Anyone. Any suggestions to soothe poor LO??? She is teething...and screams all day... It hurts to see her in so much pain but I don't know what else I can do! She is clean, changed, fed, cuddled to death, she has the allowed amount of orajel and I even broke and gave her the 1/2 dose of Tylenol... I just don't know what else to do! She screams and fusses and screams and fusses for literally hours upon hours and NOTHING will stop her. Not a bath, not the swing, not the bouncer or paci, not the boppy, or her mommy :o(

I am all alone here and I just can't take this anymore.

Sorry for my vent I am just at my breaking point. I feel like any moment I am going to revert back to mothers day morning where I was sitting in tears ready to jump out the window after 7 hours of this.

Please tell me your tricks!!!!

  • She is teething at a month and a half???? Thats insane. When dd gets fussy i bring her into the dark bathroom snuggle her tight and run the bath water. It works like a charm

  • Have you tried wetting and freezing a washcloth and letting her suck on it?

Also, I would recommend against using orajel but use tylenol if it helps and she needs it.  A half-dose is really a waste in my pedi's opinion - not enough to touch the pain but now you're stuck waiting for the next dose.  If you think it will help, just give her a full dose when you can.

And lastly, I'm sorry!  Teething is the devil but this too shall pass.

  • Do you have a bathroom vent fan or a white noise machine?  Sometimes even a vaccuum cleaner turned on will help.  Any kind of whirring or murmuring sound can help soothe a newborn.  Dishwasher turned on might help.  Good luck!

  • Have you tried a car ride? Walks? What about swaddling, paci, rocking her on the side and shushig her. It is from Happiest baby on the block. Hang in there. So sorry.
  • Lay her on the floor and use your hair dryer on the cool setting (don't blow it on her just set it by her blowing the opposite way) or vacuum near her.   Both of these were a God send for me when DD was super fussy and even I couldn't get her calmed down.
  • Why only half a dose of Tylenol? I would definitely give her a full dose when you are able to. I also agree with PP about the cold washcloth. And I haven't had personal experience with them, but my brother (and several other parents I've talked to) swears  by teething tablets. They sell them at most drug stores (CVS, Walgreens) and apparently work great. Although I don't know if you're able to get them tonight!

HTH and hope your LO feels better soon so you can get some rest!!

What about a car ride.  That always seems to calm down my DS.  What about putting her near the dryer when it's on?

Also forgot to mention that I go into the dark bathroom and turn the fan on, and just rock him.  This one works every time.
  • So far, running the vacuum has knocked DD out almost every time. Add in wearing her and she's guaranteed asleep.

Are you positive it's teething? I'm not saying she's not, but have you ruled out gas, etc.? If so, I've heard great things about clove oil, but be absolutely sure it's diluted with another oil.

  • Are you sure she's teething? Do you have a moby to use?

  • Like others said give her a whole does of Tylenol not just half. Also our pedi said no oragel b/c it can numb the back of their throat and they can choke.

Others have given really good suggestions here that you might try. Also if you have some one to come help out and give you a break. I know how hard it is to deal w/ a crying baby. DS#1 had colic and acid reflux so cried pretty much the first 4 months of his life. I really wish I would have asked for more help. Hopefully you LO is feeling better soon.

This. At a month and a half I would suspect colic or reflux before teething. Have you called your pedi?

    Ditto. Ditto.

  • Great ideas thank you! I finally got her to calm down around midnight my time.

And yes....already met with her Dr...it is her teeth... I knew it wasnt reflux bc she has that and I know those screams....been dealing with that and gas all along... this is a whole different animal and in my opinion worse lol. Sorry for shortness...bumping one handed bc she is fussing again.
