DH and I have been asked by SIL to be our nephew's Godparents. He is being Baptized next Sunday at the Catholic church on the reserve that DH is from (where SIL and MIL still live).
I assume that we are supposed to get him a gift, and I would like to either way, but I am not sure what to get him.
I was thinking maybe a little children's bible, any other suggestions are welcome. Nephew is almost 3 and a half years old, if that helps.
Re: Ideas for Baptism gift
I don't think SIL has purchased it yet. The priest said he will supply one for $5.00, but are fancier ones available?. I've never been to a Catholic Baptism before so I kind of flying blind.

There are fancy ones available. Depends on what your SIL is in to. I still have mine from when I was baptized at 3 months old.
You could also look in to a childs rosary, personalized rosary boxes, a cross for their room.
We are going to be Godparents for my nephew this Sunday and I got a stuffed Lamb that plays Jesus Loves Me and a mini set of Peter Rabbit books. I ordered them off Christianbook.com
We will also put $50 in a card...
We have also done Rosarys, personalized crosses, piggy banks, snowglobes and music boxes that play Jesus Loves Me(I love that song for children)
SIL is not very religious at all, she fully admits that she is only baptizing Nephew because that is what her grandmother would have wanted.
I really like the idea of giving him a rosary though. I bought a beautiful rosary in Mexico, (even though I'm not Catholic). I may give that rosary to him with a personalized rosay box. Luckily there are two or three Christian book stores in town, I should be able to find a rosary box at one of them.

I like the sentiment of the cross or rosary or Bible.
I'll also add that DH's family gives money for a lot of occasions like this. They get savings bonds for baptisms, Christmas, birhdays, etc. There are bonds that you pay the full amount, and then in 30 years they are worth more, and then there are bonds that you pay 1/2 the value and in 30 years they are worth their face value. When we got married, DH cashed in a shitton of savings bonds. It was awesome.
Not to say they didn't get presents growing up, but there are a lot of Aunts & Uncles and the kids just didn't need presents from every person every time. So they frequently would get $25 savings bonds instead of random toys. Just an idea.
