Do you put shoes on LO?

My mom just called me to say that our nail tech (we have been going to her for years) made a comment about how I always have shoes on LO and how he must be so uncomfortable.

I always have shoes on him when we are out and about.  When we are home or when he has footed jammies on, there are no shoes, but I just think he looks like he is dressed for the day.

WDYT?

Re: Do you put shoes on LO?

  • I always have shoes on him when we go out because it's the only thing that keeps socks on his fat little cankles :-P

  • No shoes most of the time, but when we got out in public I try to put shoes on him so he looks fully dressed.

  • Whenever he goes out, he's got shoes on. I'm 50/50 with going to daycare (depending on both of our moods in the morning, ha).

I could say that it's partly to keep his socks on... but that wouldn't justify the flip-flops from Carters I bought him for the summer...Smile

  • We never put shoes on DD except when she wears nice dresses (like for pictures/church). If it is cool she wears socks or footed pants and if it is hot she has bare feet. I hate shoes and socks myself and go barefoot at home and flip flops as long as possible during the year-- maybe my decisions for LO are based off what I do for myself?

  • I love baby shoes but I have never put them on G.  Her feet are so tiny I've never found a pair that will actually stay on.  Plus I'm lazy, lol.

Its so funny that you posted this today. Just this morning at 4am while I was feeding him, I was looking at all his tiny shoes & wondering if he should be wearing them. He has never worn shoes, just socks- not even to his baptism!

    Same here!!

I don't see the point in them. If I could get away with not wearing shoes in public and not be looked at like a scuz bucket, I would do it!

No never.  I never thought of it.  To me shoes = walking.  Never thought of it... hmmm you girls, making me second guess my parenting lol.
  • I will put shoes on J if we are going to be on the bus or outside.  Not only to keep his socks on but I know I'll need to stand him up on surfaces and I don't want him to slip or slide his socks off.  Plus, I will put them on for warmth.  Silly?  Probably... but so far it's been a balancing act to know how to properly dress for Oregon lately.  His bear suit is too warm, sometimes a fleece coat is too much and other times a simple cotton jacket with shoes is enough to keep him at a good temp.

  • He only wore them a handful of times for special occasions. He's outgrown the pairs he has & as it gets warmer out, he really has no need. I may get a pair of sandals and water shoes for him for summer, though.

I don't.  I was given a few pairs by people but I forget that they're in his closet.  And except for about 2 weeks in February, it really hasn't been cold since he's been born.  I do put socks on him when we go out, though.

I have never put shoes on her and in her class at daycare, none of the babies wear shoes. Our ped actually told us they are not good for their feet until they are walking.

    never.

I didn't think you weren't supposed to put shoes on kids until they walk, but it might just be that you can't put shoes on them while they are learning to walk, but before is ok.

  • We do shoes on "special occasions." Meeting a relative the first time, photos, Easter, etc. Sometimes we will wear them just for fun, but that's rare. They only thing I have heard for comfort is to make sure the shoes don't have hard soles. No need for the hard soles and I heard something about it...I can't remember if it was just comfort or development. We just got some super cute flip flops at Target that have bunches of little flowers on top of her foot. :) Love them. They look like they would be pretty comfy because her little feet can wiggle all over in them.

  • We usually just rock the socks that 'look' like shoes. Lily has such skinny feet that shoes never stay on.. I gave up trying. I do love baby shoes though.
  • I put her in shoes when we go out because it's the only way I can get her socks to stay on.  They are adorable and I doubt they're uncomfortable.  They are really soft.

  • We never put shoes on LO. And most of the time, he doesn't have socks either.

this is us, too.  I won't put shoes on him probably until the fall because during the summer.. I go barefoot most of the time I figure he will too.  he does wear the socks that look like shoes all of the time, tho :)

haha same here! I used to at least have socks on all the time but now I feel bad when we load into a hot car and she's in a onesie and socks, so I leave them off. Sometimes I'll put them on if her feet get slimey from being too cold.

  • Nope! If it's cold out, he gets socks. If it's moderate, he gets a little one-piece sleeper with footies. If it's warm/hot he gets a onesie and shorts or pants, and his bare piggies are free.

We've only done shoes about 5-6 times because they matched his outfit.

Like here: He had an ornage shirt and the brown jacket, and his shoes are brown with orange accents.
