Is anyone else's lower back killing them?

I have annoying lower back pain on my right side. I'm sure this is common due to the weight we are carrying on the front now, but what can I do to ease it?

  • I have this as well. I feel down the steps when I was pregnant with DD#1 at the end and it has been causing me problems since. It has only gotten worse since being pregnant and now there are times where I bend over and I am not sure if I can get back up. I just put a heating pad on it and have DH massage it every evening before we go to bed.

I have pain throughout my lower back. I have tried changing positions and that helps a little. It's annoying, I know!!

  • I've had this pain for a while now. My OB suggested I get a maternity support band. I know my pain is casued a lot by DS and not resting enough, so my situation may be different than yours. Thermaheat patches are safe to use, so says my OB, and they helped me before. Hope you feel better.

Agree.  Also consider a maternity support belt.  Helped me A LOT.

  • Laying flat on my back helps me, it hurts at first but after about 5 minutes you can feel the difference.  I dont know if this works for anyone else!
  • I also get on all fours at night and arch and release a few times.  It doesn't seem to take away the pain or lessen it even, but it feels good to stretch it before bed.  I try not to take Tylenol unless I absolutely can't stand it, but you could try that and a heating pad.
  • Someone somewhere yesterday posted about prenatal yoga helping to loosen/stretch lower back and hips to alleviate that pain.  They had said there are free podcasts on iTunes if you search under 'mamaste'.  I haven't looked yet, but worth a try!

  • Take a tennis ball, put it in a sock, and stand with your back to the wall, holding the tennis ball behind you. Move around against the wall to give yourself a "massage" with the tennis ball. The sock just makes it easier to hold and not drop every 5 seconds. This works really well for knots/sore muscles. If it's more of a pinched nerve thing, not as well.

Ditto to the back arches as well!

I had lower back pain on my right side for nearly 3 weeks.  I'd get a sharp pain everytime I stepped forward with my right leg.  My insurance won't cover chiropractic, so my doctor sent me to physical therapy, they told me it was likely caused by my S.I. joint.  Ironically around the time of my first physical therapy appt, the pain became more sporadiic and has mostly gone away... (all they did was assess).  I just hope it stays away.  The Physical therapist gave me stretches and exercises to do... they aren't easy with a pregnant belly though.
