July 2011 Moms

Anyone else? Cramping. (Got a bit long, sorry!)

So Saturday night I noticed I had menstrual-like cramps for a while, but I fell asleep while I was waiting to see if they'd go away or not. Sunday morning the Mr. and I took the dog for a walk before going to my mom's for lunch. While we were walking my cramps felt worse and I started getting sharp, stabby pains really down low. We went home, I drank 32oz of water, put my feet up, and rested for an hour to see if they'd go away. They did.

Monday morning I had an appointment and talked to the doctor about the cramps and sharp pains. He wasn't concerned since they went away with water and rest. He just said to call if the cramps persisted more than two hours with rest and water or if I had them with more than 4 contractions in an hour. Fair enough.

Yesterday afternoon I had cramps again. I was already sitting and drank another 32oz of water, put my feet up, and waited them out. I ended up having 5 BH contractions (at least I'm pretty sure that's what they were -- rock hard belly that lasted 30 sec-1 min before softening up again) in an hour. So I called.

The on-call doctor said that she wasn't concerned about the menstrual-like cramps since they were constant and not coming and going. She told me to drink another 3 big glasses of water (150oz+ of water yesterday!) and give myself another hour. If I felt more than 6 contractions in that hour, then I needed to call back and she'd bring me in. Of course I didn't even have one contraction, so that was good.

Baby is moving around fine (though a little sleepy this morning), so I'm happy with that.

Anyway, does anyone else feel cramps low down as often as I'm feeling them? I just feel like it's a lot. I plan to call the doctor again today if I have cramps for two hours despite rest and water, so I'm not asking whether I should call or not. ;)

I had pretty bad menstrual-like cramps last night, also with some pressure down low. Because it was constant and not coming-and-going, I wasn't very concerned. So you're not alone!

I had a very similiar experience a little over a month ago & I've been on bedrest ever since.

The menstrual type cramping/pain that you are describing is NOT round ligament pain so be persistent if your Dr tells you it is.

I had the cramping pain for about 2 days and then it went away... I have no idea what caused it. I'm assuming it was due to my irritable uterus and being on my feet too much? I also had a lower backache and a pressure/fullness feeling in my lower abdomen.

It may be nothing but just in case, call your Dr and get it checked out. I'm so scared of another July momma going into PTL.

Sorry... my response is totally not helpful. I think the best thing you can do is drink lots of water and stay off your feet & see if it goes away.

Thanks, ladies. I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way, but the above is a little scary since it is exactly how I feel (though I've had that pretty much since 20 weeks -- they always say it's the way I'm carrying and the loosening of my joints), plus the cramping of course. I'm keeping off my feet for now and drinking a ton, but my two hours of cramping is up in an hour. I have a feeling I'll be calling in again.

Thankfully both doctors I've spoken to think it's par for the course and not PTL, but I don't mind asking another doctor for another opinion (we have 5 in our group).

  • I had some cramping last night that lasted for about 20 minutes. I laid down, drank some water, and it went away. It was though, like you describe, very low. And I may just be a total freak, but I can't really tell if my ute was hard or not during the cramping -- it seemed less like a contraction and more like, well, a menstrual cramp. The cramping did come after my first work-out swim in more than 5 months, so I am guessing it was from that. I plan on taking it a little easier next time :) Hope you get some answers about yours!!
