I was really hoping to be done with the questions but I have a few more. I just looked over the RX and they wrote it for 20 vials of Menopur and 2 Vials of something else (I assume that is a trigger). I am wondering if this is enough drugs for two attempts. If so, that is great because it is less money than we planned. I am pretty sure he said there would only be one injection a day.
1. How many days of injections before your IUI procedure?
2. One vial = a typical daily dose?
3. Did the injection drugs affect you emotionally? BCP does not agree with me and I haven't taken in many, many years because of the way it effects my emotions. It is also making my cycle a lot worse than usual.
4. Is there bleeding during the injectables? Obviously, the pill is making this worse and I wonder if the other meds have the same effect.
Thank you so much.
Re: IUI meds?
We used different meds, so not sure my answers will be applicable.
For the stims, we used Gonal-F (FSH). I did 112.5 units/day for 7 days. I had two 900 unit pens, and only used most of one. I think Menopur is a combo of FSH and LH, but is more or less the same and you will probably start with one vial/day. You might need to increase your dose if you don't respond well to the initial dose, so it should be enough, but it will really depend on your response.
My trigger was Ovidrel (hcg), which is a pre-filled syringe.
I actually did much much better with the injections than I did with Clomid, but DH still thinks I was overly emotional. Eh, whatever. I didn't feel I was too moody on the injectables, but I've never had trouble with BCPs.

Ok, that makes sense that maybe they give you 20 vials in case you need to increase the dose. Maybe, I will luck out and it will get me through two cycles since we are not going to do more than 2. Gosh, I just want to get the ball rolling with all of this so I can get the positive pregnancy test!
Well good luck with your June IUI, hopefully I will be joining you.....(meaning not getting cancelled).
With one IUI using Clomid and 1/2 an IUI with the injects. I have some insight. Well my last IUI I used 1 vial of menpur and 1vial of the bravelle each day for three days......knowing that clearly didn't work the RE suggested since it was already CD6 (I think) there should have been signs of follicles...there were none....I could pick option 1...up dose to 225 of bravelle and 75 of the menopur or option 2...cancell cycle......we cancelled due to oop and this clearly was not a great cycle. We cut our losses.
So your question on number of vials is hard to tell....it is all based on your response. That is why they never really tell you a definative dolllar amount. After knowing that I may be using 3 vials of one med per day I guess the med budget will be blown out of the water...have not really noted this to the DH in the financial terms. I also was given a med called orgatultran (sp) I purchased three preloaded syringes...told I may need more. This med is supposed to hold the follicles in place while they grow.....hopefully we make it to that point in June cycle.
I hear you on the BCP thing...it is really making me have headaches and moodiness....sorry to the DH! I have had no break through bleeding at this pointfrom any of the drugs. It is so crazy the amount of protocols that are out there...some RE's don't do the BCP thing for IUI's and some do.

This BCP thing is out of control for sure! I just hope I don't bleed the entire time, it was almost to the point that I could not leave the house one day (not sure if that is normal) and it would normally be ending today but not looking to be that way right now. Now, I remember why past OB's have said, "Don't take BCP because it does not agree with you" I wish you luck too and hope we can complete the process in June since we are not going to do more than 2 procedures for many reasons. Good Luck! Thank you for answering my questions, I guess only time with tell but I do feel more relaxed about the procedure these days and that's because I am a crazy lady on the pills so it helps me forget about what it to come...
