Hi ladies!
Back in January, there was a 100 Days Challenge circulated on Facebook, started by John "The Penguin" Bingham, who is a runner and an encourager that everyone can become an active person. The challenge was to, as he put it, "move - intentionally - for 30 minutes a day for 100 days in a row. It doesn't matter what it is. You can move for 30 minutes once, 15 minutes twice, or 10 minutes three times. You can park your car and walk around the block on your way to work. You can take your dog out for a walk. You can dance, or skip, or do whatever makes you happy. You just need to move."
Well I just did a little math and realized that we're all getting mighty close to 100 days from DD! ![]()
I figured out that if we started a 100 days challenge this Monday, May 16th - that would be 16 days in May, 30 days in June, 31 days in July - leaving 23 more days in August. At that point we'd be a week away from 9/1 and the beginning's of people's births.
I know I've been a pretty active person in general but it's been harder and harder to get my butt off the couch as this pregnancy has progressed. I think part of my struggle is that I'm used to running double-digit mileage on the weekends, and by this time of the year I'm running at least 4 days a week gearing up into marathon training - so I kind of tend to feel like it doesn't "count" if I'm not doing THAT. If I can't go run 8 miles I just won't do anything. But that kind of thinking is not helping me or this baby!
Would anybody else be up for starting our own September 2011 mamas 100 day challenge? We could do check in posts each day talking about how we spent our 30 minutes - which really can be anything! Take a walk with your SO, play in the garden, heck - taking your kids to the playground and playing with them instead of watching from the bench!
OBVIOUSLY I'm not trying to tell anyone to go against what their doctor has said, or make people on bed rest or restricted activity feel bad. But for those of us who are still able to be active, there's so much information out there that says our activity is helpful to our little ones. I read a study recently that even showed that moms who exercised more had babies with better cardiac health at birth!
Anyone want to join me?
Re: 100 days challenge - an idea
Great idea!
I am running daily for 8 miles, more in the weekends. Just curious - why couldn't you run four times a week and double digit miles now? With DD1, I still ran about 40 miles per week right at 40 weeks when I delivered. Did you doctor tell you to stop running?
Doctor didn't tell me stop at all - I just get out of breath so much more easily. I was a slower runner to begin with - about 11:30/mile, and I really feel the extra weight. The heat is harder for me to deal with now, too
Kudos to you ladies! Keep it up!
As for me, maybe I'll start my own group called the "get your a$$ up and exercise at least once this week challenge."
I know I should participate in this one, but going from maybe once a week to everyday just isn't going to happen haha. And who wants to be a drop-out failure?!
Agreed. lol
DH and I try to walk 4 days a week since he works late the other 3 and doesn't want me walking around by myself. Not that we live in a bad neighborhood or anything, he's just one of those overprotective guys.. lol. This would be great to make me do something every day
I can definitely feel that "extra weight." I did stairs yesterday and OMG I felt like there was a sack of bricks on top of me. DH loved it and was laughing so hard because I kept stopping saying "Are you sure I don't look like a whale because I sure feel like one?"
Lacey I am totally with you!!
Yep - I'll try my best to start a "check in" post every day!
Yes and yes! Although probably not online shopping.
That's the idea - it's just to get yourself to move in some way, whatever works for you!
Alright - so we're on! I'm still going to call our "official" start this Monday so everyone has time to join in if they want to and has a few last days of lovely laziness.
Plus it's just nice to start things on a Monday, isn't it? Maybe we can all post Monday Moans about how grumpy we are that we agreed to this and now we feel stuck to it.
I'll try to repost this each day between now and then to give others a chance to join in, too.
I'm so glad you guys like this idea!

I'm in. I've been sulking this week because despite really slowing down, my heart rate was still too high when running. Though I may be somewhat delayed with my start date because I am going to a conference next week and will have long days with little control over my time.
I am going to NOT count my walk to work, though (25 min each way) because that is part of my normal routine.
