For those who BLW - a question

If you give your kid broccoli, or a carrot stick, do you steam them first to soften them up?

Thanks!

  • I do for carrots, but she prefers her broccoli raw.  She only eats the little "leaves" off the broccoli anyways.

  • Thanks! This spoon-feeding thing is annoying. I let him have some toast in strips and while he didn't actually eat a lot of it, he seemed to enjoy himself.

I bought some fresh broccoli and I think I'm going to steam it and give him some for dinner. Thanks everyone!

Kate loves broccoli this way but warning it is SO messy!  Keep the stalk part long so he can grab on to it like a lollipop!  Kate thinks she is big and bad when she takes bites out of the top part!

LOL! That's funny. I'm not a clean freak, so I'm OK with mess, haha. Thanks for the tip!

  • yeah, anything crunchy should be steamed. super easy to do those baby carrots in the microwave. crunchy raw veggies and fruits are still choking hazards.

  • Broccoli was B's first BLW food. We steamed it nice and soft and left a long handle. He loved it! Biggest mess ever, but he had fun.

  • I have given Mac refrigerated, raw carrot sticks to gnaw on. He can't eat them, but he likes to gnaw. I think it's become his favorite teether!
