Do you guys purchase trip insurance when you travel? If so, who do you purchase it from? Do you get a "cancel for any reason" policy or just a base policy?

I don't purchase it. I may regret it one day, but so far we've never purchased it. I always make sure I am 100% clear on cancellations policies though, so that I know what the last day to cancel is.

I bought it for our trip to Hawaii in August. I bought it directly through Delta and I made sure that pregnancy reasons were on there. I just need a doctors note. It wasn't that expensive either...like $40.

I purchased it once for an entirely pre-paid cruise. I don't think it's necessary if you are paying a hotel bill after you finish your stay. If you're basically paying for your vacation in advance, I would totally do it. We had an amazing cruise planned in Europe, and my husband got food poisoning which turned into a stomach infection and was grounded by his doctor. We got all our money back, and we would have lost it without the insurance. It really depends on what kind of trip you're booking on whether or not it's worth it.

I travel a lot basically every 2 months.. Ive never purchased the insurance. IMO its a waste of money. If I bought it every time I traveled it would definitely add up but its really your choice.
This would be for our babymoon (25 wks pg) to Mexico. I will have to pay for the entire trip up front.
I am finding that most of the policies won't cover if the dr says I can't go because of complications with pregnancy, so it looks like I would have to buy a "cancel for any reason" policy... and even those only cover 75% of non refundable trip costs. They are running around $200.

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Did you look into TravelGuard?

It depends on how expensive the trip is. We bought it for our cruise and for Disney. Totally worth it if something happens. B eing pregnant or having kids i would get it because there are more factors out of you control.
I'd do it in a heartbeat. Did you look into TravelGuard?
I am looking at insuremytrip.com which has travel guard policies listed. It basically compares coverage for different policies.
I guess I am having a hard time spending $200 when it would only be covered 75% if I have to cancel. Yes, it would be more than $200 if we have to file a claim, but I am annoyed it wouldnt be covered 100%.

This. We travel a lot and the first time we've gotten insurance is for the cruise we are going on. We bought it through our travel agent who booked the cruise.
Our travel agent organized for us. We went through Travel Guard.
I think the difference is that your issue must have fallen under the covered "trip cancellation" so it wasn't "cancel for any reason"
I went on their site directly and the "trip cancellation" is 100% but the "cancel for any reason" is 50-70% depending on the plan.
I'd call them. Do you really need to tell them you're pregnant? I mean, my husband had to cancel for medical reasons, he just got a note from his doctor and that was that. It seems like you could go with "trip cancellation."

So it seems like general travel insurance may not cover cancellations due to pregnancy complications. Also be very aware when purchasing medical coverage/travel insurance for international travel. Most won't cover pregnancy-related complications and hospitalizations, especially after the 2nd trimester. I was contemplating a brief trip to Europe late in my 2nd trimester, but I think that idea fizzled out.

Did the note say WHY he couldn't go and what he was sick from? Do you remember?

I think I am just going to get the regular trip insurance and pray if there is an issue, my dr will write a note that says I am too sick to go and leave it at that. I don;t know if it will work, but this is stressing me out way too much and I am don't want to deal with it anymore

Do you guys purchase trip insurance when you travel? If so, who do you purchase it from? Do you get a "cancel for any reason" policy or just a base policy?
I've only started buying it now that I'm pregnant and booking expensive flights in the future. The one I used was through Expedia and you can cancel with a full refund with a doctor's note. I figured this was a good idea in case something happened and my husband and I couldn't go. Otherwise, I never purchase it.
We were 2 under 2, now 3 under 3!
