Any good ideas for a family 'vacation' that's pretty local?

We do not want to pay to fly anywhere or drive too far as I am pg and due at the end of August.  But we want to take a few days off work and still have a family 'vacation.'  Kids are 3 and 1.  Got any good ideas?  It will probably have to be in June sometime...

Is there a beach you can go to at Lake Geneva?  Is there much for a 3 and 1 year old at the Dells?  All I think of is large water slides :)

  • there is a beach at Lake geneva to play at.... we haven't gone down to the beach when we go because we have gone in Sept and the weather wasn't the greatest. At WI dells, we stayed at Kalahari and there was a great kids part that had plenty for the kids to do! (mine were  3 and 1 at the time)

  • Indiana Dunes

You can rent a house in the area, enjoy the beach, enjoy the dunes, etc.

  • The western coast of Michigan is amazing.  Less than a 3 hour drive and there are natural water beaches all up and down the coastline.  Each town has something different to offer...some very artsy...great restaurants, boat rides, etc.  I would recommend Saugatuck area for a short drive but plenty to do.  The beaches make for a relaxing trip too!  Holland is also great...there are actual hotels there  too if you dont want to do a resort or bed and breakfast.
