Husband going to first appointment?

Hi all! This is my first post on this board - got my BFP on Mother's Day and we're very excited for our first LO!  My first appointment with my OB is still a few weeks out, but I was just wondering if your husbands came along on your first and/or future appointments? TIA!

Re: Husband going to first appointment?

  • congrats!

DH came with me to the first appt, but that's because we knew we were getting an u/s.  The first appt I had with a nurse, which was just medical history and bloodwork, I went alone.  I think the plan for us is if there's an u/s involved, he'll come, if not, then he won't.

My DH came to every single appointment with my DD and will try to make all with this one too.  It helped him feel like the pregnancy was real, especially in the beginning when I wasn't showing with my DD.

my DH wasn't there for my first appointment but all it really consisted of was blood work, a PAP and some questions we had come up. He plans on coming to my ultrasound appointments so we can see the baby. I'm excited for that!!

  • I would call your OB and see what the appt will consist of. My first appt was literally just bloodwork and they gave me some info about birthing costs, etc. I didn't even actually meet with my OB, just the lab tech! DH didn't come to that one, but he came to the others.

  • My husband came to every single appointment last time and will do the same this time around. You may get an ultrasound, and you may see the heartbeat at the first appointment so it would be nice to have him there just in case.

  • Dh came to my first, but I knew there would be an u/s with the possibility of seeing a hb, so I didn't want him to miss that.  We try to plan appointments so he can come along.  He is coming with me next week because I will be getting another u/s and discussing/scheduling the first tri screening.  I want him at as many as possible and he does too so he can feel more involved.
  • myhubby didnt come to my first appointment because he got called into work but he plans on attending the rest(especially our  u/s appt on June 29th!!!!)

  • I don't think my DH is going.  We haven't really talked about it.  To go would mean to take time off work, and we're trying to save all his vacation time for when the baby is born so he can be home as much as possible.  He'll take off to go to the 20 week u/s with me, but I usually try to schedule it at  a time when he will only have to leave a little early and can work over the next day.  He went to all of my appointments with our first, but his work schedule was totally different.  He worked for UPS early in the mornings, then delivered pizza at night, so he was free all day long.

  • Nope!  Like some of the other pp's, my first appt was with a nurse and a lab tech only.  We went over extensive family history, some questions I had, and had blood drawn.  DH will be coming with me to the next appt in a couple weeks because we will be getting an u/s and maybe hear the hb!  I am going to try to schedule the appts so he can come to as many as possible and feel involved.

My husband didn't come to my first appointment because it was just to confirm my pregnancy and we went through my history.  My 12 week appointment is today and he is coming because we will probably hear the heartbeat and get a u/s.  He's really excited.

Nope. He was working out of town, but even if he had been here I'm not sure I would have had him come. My first appt wasn't very exciting - exam/pap, history, and blood draw. He'll come to my NT u/s in 2 weeks and the anatomy scan at 20ish weeks, and he may try to make a few appointments here and there.

My first OB visit is in 2 weeks and my husband is going to take off that day since I know I'll be having an ultrasound and he doesn't want to miss it. I'm having some blood work done and my yearly visit next week and I will go by myself for that.

My hubby will be with me on my first appointment along with all of the others. I dont think he wants me to feel alone and that he is being supportive! I think it is good for the dads to be there for all the appointments because they are knowing what to expect!

P.s KMM2150 I love your choco lab! We have one of our own, they are so fun!!

  • No. My husband cannot get off of work but even if he did go he would have been bored out of his mind. It was an internal exam, bloodwork, and some information on nutrition, when you should call the emergency after hours line, etc.

The only appointment he will attend is the anatomy scan at 20 weeks, and possibly the NT scan depending on when it is scheduled for.

  • My FI goes to all of my appointments. I don't drive, and it's a really long bus ride, so I schedule my appointments for his days off. At first he just sat in the waiting room, but once we started listening for the heartbeat at every appointment he comes into the room with me.

  • my first appt is june 3, and they're doing an u/s then as well as what i would assume would be all the other regular stuff... DH is working from home that day and blocked off the time we'd be at the drs. office.

Same with us... My first appt. was actually yesterday! I knew they were going to do the vaginal ultrasound and that there was a possibility we'd see a heartbeat. I'm so glad he came because we saw our little bean and it was priceless to have the hubby there.

I'd suggest calling your Dr. and asking what the appt. will consist of. Good Luck!

  • My first appt. with the nurse for all the background info. is a week from today.  I asked when I made the appt. and the nurse suggested that DH not come.  She said it is extremely boring and over an hour.  The following week I have another appt. with the doctor and DH will come to that.  We're hoping to see the hb.
  • I'd check with your doctor and see what they are doing for the first appointment, then see how your husband feels about it.

I'm having my DH come along because they will be doing an u/s so we should be able to hear the hearbeat. He'll help me remember my questions/answers and he's better at asking follow up questions. :)

I asked him about future visits and as long as something is happening he wants to go, but if it's just a "checking in" type of visit he doesn't want to take the time off of work.

By the way, I love your puppies!
