This morning they mentioned on the radio how the top names now are Jacob & Isabella - Twilight movie names. They also talked about how names from the Teen Mom show are popular. The radio person mentioned that it might not be people actually naming their kids after those people, but more like a "huh, I kind of like that name."
So where did you get the name for your little one(s)?
Cooper - Tom Selleck's character in the last season of Las Vegas was Cooper. DH and I both had the whole "huh, we like that name" thing and it just stuck. Doyle was my dad's middle name.
Re: Where did you get LOs name?
We saw it in a name book and put it on the list because we just liked it
And it mostly fit all DH's requirements that his first name not be too obvious of a last name since our last name is a very common first name. DH is very sensitive to being called "Lastname Ryan" instead of "Ryan Lastname" and didn't want to have the same thing happen to Cason, but I have a feeling its going to.
Sarah Corinne:
Sarah is a family name on my mother's side. I've always loved the name. Corinne was my husband's maternal grandmother's name.
Elizabeth Grace:
Elizabeth was the name of the mutual friend who introduced DH and me. I've always loved traditional classic names so it was an easy choice. I wanted a one syllable middle name to go with Elizabeth - thus Grace.
Hypothetical third child names:
Katherine Margaret (all family names on my dad's side)
Robert Charles (after DH's dad)
I'm sad we'll never get to use them!
Abigail I just liked and had a dream I named her that when I was pregnant with her so it stuck. Rose is my sister's and late maternal Grandmother's middle name.
Collin is becuase my Dad's middle name is Collins and Thayne was DH's late maternal Grandmother's maiden name (which she used as her last name after her divorce so it's not MILs maiden name).
Collin Thayne 10.11.2010
We saw Evan in a name book and added it to the list. I also looked it up to see where is was in the popularity list. It was in the top 50, so it wasn't uncommon, but it wasn't in the top 10 either. And it flows well with our last name. I couldn't help but like what it means either - God's gracious gift.
His middle name is Alexander. DH was reading books about Alexander the Great at the time and really liked it. We also thought is was a good contrast to his first name.

Joseph Tate. Joseph is both of my husband's grandfathers' names. Tate is my dad, grandad, and great-grandad's middle names.
Jett Michael is named after his grandmother. Her name is Jeanette and we just shorten it too Jett.
The other boy named we really like was Memphis (from the character of gone in 60 seconds) Cooper (the pedis doctor on Private Practice).
Our little miracle, Jett.
Planning Bio,
My Blog
Landry (same name as the former Cowboys coach, I thought it sounded pretty as a girls name) Kate (we joke that it's after the character on Lost... but it's just simple and pretty).
Our boy name was/is for #2 Cooper (the town where my g-gparents settled when they moved to TX) Otis (Js middle name).
Grayden came from our desire to have a G name, but not a junior after DH. I was working and one of my accounts the store owner was the sweetest, kindest man I've come across in a long long time. His name was Graydon and I loved it and it fit our criteria. John Harold is DH's middle name, and the name of both of his grandfathers, so we covered both sides of his family with that.
This baby is going to be Bennett. I found it on a baby name website. We like different, but not completely crazy names and it fit. Plus I love that it means blessed. His middle name is going to be Charles after both of my grandpa's, my dad and my brother.
Holy cow - that's my godson's name exactly. For a second there I though you were his mom...then I realized that I recognized your nest name.
Natalie Grace -- neither have family significance, we just liked them.
Julia Kathryn -- Kathryn is my first name; Julia is just a name we like.
Micaela - named after my dad; my first kid was going to be Michael or Micaela... Her dad really had no say in it. LOL Her middle name is Lynn, after my BFF Lynda.
Kaitlyn Elizabeth - poor kid. Longest name ever! I'm all about honoring family etc, but DH is not. He believes each kid should have their "own" name. Originally she was going to be Kaitlyn Ann, but MIL stuck it in DH's head that it was too plain. Eventually we agreed on Elizabeth.
Samantha Grace - She was originally Daisy Jane. Mainly b/c I wanted to call her DJ. Funny since I am pretty adamant about the older two not having 'nick names' made out of their names. lol And we thought it sounded a little stripperish. I would randomly send DH names and vice versa... We sent each other Samantha one day and it stuck. Grace because it flowed well and we wanted 1 syllable.
We wanted a strong, unique/distinct name for our son. Unique mainly because our last name is so common. A bonus was that we didn't know anyone with either of those names.
Gideon was picked from a contestant on American Idol a few seasons back. And funny thing is we don't even watch the show. Dh was flipping channels and it was the end of the show when they post their names and show a sample of the contestant singing. Dh asked what I thought of the name. It took me a long time to be happy with it.
Eden was just a name that popped in my head that and it kind of went with Gideon.
Both of their middle names had to begin with the letter L as Dh's family tradition, which I actually appreciated.
Kolby - was on the show Numbers, one of the detectives, and it was already on the list from a huge list of baby names we had. I didn't like it with a "C" because with our last name you can easily spell "C R A P"!!! ummm no, thank you. So it had to be K.
Ray - is my Husband's Grandmother's middle name. When she passed and I was doing the funeral documents, I fell in love with it, and told H if we ever had a child, their middle name would be Ray. I got lots of flack about it from my sisters because it didn't have anything to do with my family, sigh.
Marion - my grandfather's middle name. He was one of the most important people in my life and passed away a month before she was born. She was a few hours old and screaming her head off and Josh looked at me and said, she looks a lot like your papaw right now. So Marion it was.
Lea - my mom's mom's name. I kind of hate her middle name, but it's what we went with. I wanted it to be Marion Rose, which Rose was my mom's mom's first name and my middle name, but my brother & his wife were pregnant when we delivered and had already claimed the name Rosemary for their girl (even though they didn't know what they were having at the time) and told me they thought Marion Rose was too close to Rosemary.
Eliza Jane - it's after Elizabeth Bennett in Pride & Prejudice. A few times in the book they call her "Eliza" and I really just liked it. Plus Jane is my mom's middle name and my step grandmother's name, so it works for a family name as well.

Carter Dewayne
Carter - just a radom name we picked at the beginning but didn't really love it until we started really looking at names and for boys there just isn't anything that jumped out at us.
Dewayne - DH and FIL middle name.
If we have another boy I really have no clue on a name but for a girl I really like Lillian and Arya.
Emmy:
I always liked the name Emily, but it was getting too common. And then I watch the Poseidon movie with Emmy Rossum in it, and thought it was a really cute name and close enough to Emily! Sh'es also in Phantom of the Opera and was really good in it.
Ally:
I like names of siblings to kind of go together, and so I wanted 4 letters with 2 syllables. So it was between Abby, Katy, and Ally. and so I picked Ally.
Cameron - we just sort of plucked out of thin air. It was not a name that had made our list of "finalists", and in hindsight, I recall us rejecting it when we were going through the baby name book, but I don't know why. But we decided he just didn't look like any of our "favorite" names, and somehow we stumbled onto Cameron.
Joseph - a nod to the Christmas story, thanks to his surprise Christmas arrival, and also my grandaddy's name (although he went by his middle name, Vernon).
Amelia Grace - Amelia is named after Amelia Earhart (DH is an aerospace/space geek). Grace is because I was never graceful (quite clumsy) and always said I'd name my daughter Grace. Overall we just liked it.
Juliet Eileen - We met while doing theater in high school. DH was on a ladder and I was down below...Romeo and Juliet in reverse. We're often asked why we named her Juliet and not Juliette and that's why...it's just more simple and classic to us. Eileen is after my grandmother and after Eileen Collins, the first female commander of a Space Shuttle...yes, the space geek in DH comes out again.
Olivia - Olivia Benson from SVU. Dylan joked he wanted his first son named after a bad @ss (Jack Bauer from 24) but since it wasn't a boy he was trying to find a bad @ss girl to name her after?!? I joked I liked Pepper Potts from Iron Man and he wouldn't let me do it so this is why we called her Pepper in utero. We both just loved the name Olivia.
Clare - My grandmother's name is Clara and it didn't fit with Olivia so we changed it up a bit to Clare. Also the reason why it doesn't have an I in it.
William David - William is after my amazing grandfather, who passed away 10 years ago. We had such a special bond. David is the name of my husband's older brother, who died at 16 years old.
Ryan McCall - The McCall part was easy - it's my mom's maiden name, my middle name, and it's the only part of my name that I have always loved. My mom raised me by herself for much of my life, so that connection to her name was important to me. Ryan is just a name that we both liked. We prefer traditional names, and we went through the top 500 boys' names on the Social Security Administration website. We got it down to about ten (only one of which wasn't in the top 100, and it was Jeffrey - not so unusual). Ryan won out. It suits him, and I like how it flows with William but isn't similar to it.
I have a whole blog post about it but since I'm not sharing my blog on here, I'll summarize:
Layla - I chose the name as a little girl after a Persian singer. I loved that there was a Persian name that wasn't "weird" and was also so American/English that there was a song about it in English too (cue Eric Clapton). I hate my name because of the comments/looks/weirded our expressions when people hear or see it so I wanted a name that my daughter would hopefully not get overly teased about or called weird.
Layla met all of our criteria:
1 - has a Persian and American heritage of sorts to it.
2- no unisex or new agey names, that's just not us.
3- not a name ignorant people will call weird, strange, etc.
Elizabeth - I actually wanted to name her Layla Grace but DH vetoed that. He loves traditional names and always loved Elizabeth. Our last name is on the longer side so we decided against a long first and last name so we chose it as her middle name. Plus we didn't want a name people would automatically shorten.
We picked Kyle Philip for a few reasons. We decided on Kyle for the following reasons:
1. Every Kyle I have met has been nice and down to earth
2. It was 150 on the U.S. social security list so it is not too unusual and not too common
3. I wanted a more unique name but DH did not so this was our compromise
Philip is after DH's grandfather.

Helen was my grandmother's name, Cecilia is DH's grandmother's name.
ETA: We picked Helen because (1) I think it is a beautiful name (2) My grandmother was an amazing woman (3) It isn't popular at all (4) It is easy to spell (5) Isn't ambiguous (6) Doesn't have any cutesy nicknames (7) It means light, or ray of light (8) The face that launched a thousand ships.
We picked Cecilia because (1) We thought it was pretty (2) DH loves his grandmother, and lots of the other women in his family have Cecilia has their middle name
DS born Dec 10, 2013
Vivian Claire:
Vivian because we wanted a name that was strong, feminine, and uncommon but still recognizable because our last name is relatively common. We like old-fashioned names and this is the one that stuck.
Claire: We tossed around a lot of ideas for middle names with vivian to see what flowed the best. We seriously considered Kate, but decided against it because our second-choice first name would have been nick-named Kate... and we liked Claire anyway. It's my middle name, and DH suggested we use it so she'd have part of my name since she was getting his last name anyway.
Cameron Arthur
DS had to have the same initials as DH (tradition) but DH did not want a Jr. So Cameron was one of the only names we could agree on. It's Scottish one of our favorite places on Earth and Gaelic so worked perfectly.
It also worked on my side of the family as well. My nephews names are Cade & Kai. So my parents have a Cade, Kia, and Cameron as grandsons.
Tracey is a family last name on rrr's mom's side (although we recently learned that it was originally Polish, and spelled Tracz...oh well!). I would have loved to name her directly after his mom, but her name was June and Tracey was born in February. It would have been doable, but somewhat confusing!
Helen was my grandmother who died at 94 a month before I got pregnant.
We found our children's names by looking into the meanings.
Our first is Briaunna Rochelle - "strong little rock" I was supposed to be Rochelle, and we love the name Briaunna (both names have their roots in the French language, part of my husband's heritage).
Second, Kairi Siobhan - "God's grace is incorruptible". Kairi is a Japanese name while Siobhan is spelled in the original Gaelic, which is part of my heritage. My dh found her name on a video game (yep - I know)... and we have only met two other Kairi's and they were both born the same year and named after the same game.
Twin A: Charis Nevaeh - "heavenly one filled with grace".
Twin B: Jocelyn Makena - "unexpected gift raining down from above". We didn't know we were having twins until 23 weeks.
She was unexpected then... and the u/s told us she was a he.. until she came out without a p3nis. So, she was unexpected AGAIN.
Lastly, Xander Baylis - "swordsman and defender of mankind". His name comes from Alexander and the term meant for a gladiator who was proficient in the short sword.
Luca B.... - Luca was named after Lucca, Italy. We are all 50% Italian and wanted an Italian name. My father's family is from Lucca. Our last name had double letters and thought that 2 names with double letters was too much. His middle name is my maiden name and also VERY Italian. He's the first grandchild on my side. B.. is also my middle name.
Lila Emilia - Dh has a co-worker named Lyla. I met her at a Christmas party many years ago (way before kids) and really liked her name. We also wanted something short and sweet since I knew I'd have a handfull with 2 under 2. When we found out she was a girl, I just knew. DH wanted to name her Gianna. Paternal grandmother was also Lia. We just liked it and it fit. I love the name Amelia, but there were too many A's especially since Lila ends in A. We have a very good friend named Emil. We were inspired and went with the E.
We also like how Luca and Lila go together. I often think that Lila is the twin we lost. She wasn't planned and kind of meant to be.
We found the name "Arianna" in the baby name book and also because we wanted her to have an American first name. We wanted to go with names that weren't commonly used and heard often. Which is true but I'm starting to understand why a lot of our family members are mispronouncing her name and misspelling it because her name is not common around our families.
We chose "Lita" as her middle name because I wanted a Laos name and that was also DH's grandmother's name which she passed away 4 years ago. We wanted to honor her name and let her have a Laos middle name to combine into one.
rory caye
we liked cory, and dh's fathers name was roy. that became rory.
caye came from ambergris caye, which is in belize. dh and i were vacationing there when dd was conceived.
You know those are not the real reasons
Bwahhhh.
well. that and i was avoiding anything that MIL could add an awkward "eeee" to the end of. cue my nephews, both of whom now introduce themselves with "eeee"s on the end of their names.
