Unfortunately, I have a friend who had a 4th degree tear that required two strips of stitches and was told by the OB that she may require reconstructive surgery to ever physically enjoy sex again.
Thankfully the sex part ended up not being the case!
I refuse to look at this. I do not need to see pictures of tearing. ::shudder:: I won't even look at my own tearing, so I have no desire to see pictures. LOL!

I had a 4th degree tear with my first. She was 9.4lbs and had shoulder dystocia (her shoulders were bigger than her head). It seemed bad at the time, but I was off my pain pills the day after I got out of the hospital. I fully recovered with no problems. But, it was not fun to go to the bathroom for the first time, second time, third time, and maybe 4th. THAT was not fun at all!!
I refuse to look at it. Ignorance is bliss for me. There are some things about L&D that I'll research, but there are others I choose to totally block out. This is one of them.

Hehe, I'm also not looking! I didn't before DS, I won't before LO. I had a 2nd degree tear, which I also did not look at, and will just judge it based on the pain factor [which I thought was par for the course].
My c-section was an easier recovery than my 4th degree tear. It was the most horrible experience in my life! Feeling every stitch as my doctor sewed me up without numbing me was the worst. Having to go back weeks later and be cauterized was a close second. I'd take a c-section over that any day.
Not to scare anyone..BUT keep in mind you don't always just tear front to back...With DD (who was 9lbs4oz) I tore from inside and up the front (right next to my urethra and clitoris)....that was excruciating - AND couldn't be stitched....just wanted to put it out there so it's no shock....
