I'm being a total PW, but i had to ask.
I'm watching the today show right now and Kathy Lee is playing with a doll that breast feeds from a bikini top thing that you can put on. I might get it for my daughter if i had one, but i don't think i'd let her take it out in public. Drawing attention to my daughter's boobs is not my idea of appropriate.
What do ya'll think?
Re: Doll that lets girls breast feed?
I don't like it.
Little girls don't BF, so I wouldn't want a doll that let my DD pretend to BF. Plus, I think it's just weird.
my read shelf:
Pretty much this. I get that the concept of the doll is probably to promote BF and everything, but the thought of a 2 or 3 year old girl (or a 7 or 8 year old) BFing her doll kind of skeeves me out. There are better ways to teach your daughter about BFing babies.
i think it had a flower where the nipple should be
Both of my oldest (yes, boy and girl) pretended to breastfeed dolls. They are only emulating what they see. It's completely innocent, and the same as a child feeding a doll with a bottle.
That said, I'd never buy that doll. It's a waste of money, unnecessary, and if it's the one with the pastie style top, kind of tacky.
Ok, that's the part that weirds me out.
Negative, ghostrider.
**I** think it's weird and I said so to a friend. My friend (unbeknownst to me) was a LaLeche League nurse and I got an earful about how all the dolls in the stores come with a bottle and it's the "formula-feeding-based media groups" who are brainwashing our children to bottle feed when breast is best. I responded by saying that as a child I never gave one thought to where the milk in the baby bottle came from, whether breast or formula and she may be a little LLL paranoid...
But that item (and the new "look" of Barbie - who was questionable when I was a youngster) has made me soooooo happy that we've got a boy.
Unable to even.

You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.
for serious. and the doll makes sucking sounds when you put it up to the "nipple"
That just sounds really weird! I can't picture a little girl doing that, nor think she should be.
Yeah, I'd pass on this. If I had a girl and she was just copying me with a doll of hers, that's fine. But I would never buy a doll for this purpose.
Also, I agree with PP - bottles do not always = formula. So I think it's wrong for people to get all up in arms when a doll comes with a bottle. The little girl can pretend "mommy's milk" is in the bottle.

I love ya MissNikki, but I don't think this is a valid argument. Little girls don't actually have babies, so with that argument, we shouldn't let them have dolls either.
I don't have a problem with the doll itself, but I do think the bra thingy is tacky. If a girl wants to pretend to BF, great, but she shouldn't need a special bra to do it.
I think it's weird... and I looked up a picture and that creeps me out as well..
wow that's pretty ultra skeevy
It's not the actual pretending to BF that I have a problem with. It's a doll *specifically* for that purpose.
This is me.
That's a bit much. I don't have a problem with my daughter pretending to BF, but I am not going to buy this.
This 100%. I'd never buy something like that for my kids.

"Place your baby's mouth next to the flowers".
That is just weird. If little girls want to learn or imitate BFing, great but breasts are not flowers. This kid is going to get made fun of when she gets to school and talks about feeding her baby with her flowers.
"Just put on the "magic top", put your baby's mouth by the flower-nipple, and you, too, can breastfeed a baby!"
The whole image is just creepy. Fake BF with a doll is one thing - but not fake BF with a "magic top" and flowers for nipples. That's creepy.
or refers to her nipples as flowers
LOL!
To me, this is one of those things where a parent projects her/her strong beliefs on their child. Example - if you are a huge BF proponent, then you will buy this doll for your DD to show everyone how "cool" you are about BFing. Which I think is wrong. Let your DD decide if she wants to BF a doll. Don't force her by buying such a specific doll. JMO.
The two men in my life. Oh, and I have a husband too...
Agreed.
I find this doll skeevy as well.. Suckle is a weird would to me BTW...
