  • I've heard lots of people say they aren't. I've tried to research why/ why not.. any good information out there on this? Is it a religious thing, a particular risk to the child, etc? TIA so I can make an educated decision.

Vaccinations only work if the vast, vast majority get them.  Flame me if you want, but if you choose not to vaccinate, you're willfully putting other children at risk, and that's incredibly selfish.

That being said, I think you're probably just a troll anyway.

  • It is a personal choice but I am not putting my child at risk for polio and other diseases, and as a scientist it has been shown that autism is not caused by vaccines...which is good because now they can find the real cause and find ways to help. The issue with not vaccinating becomes a problem when alot of people do not get it done, that when awful disease and illnesses come back to wipe out chidren. If you are not going to please get credible journal studies with proper scientific methods not what people think like Jenny McCarthy.

You're right, they don't. The scientist who 'made' that discovery just formally announced (a few months ago) that he rigged his own study so that he could become rich and famous. It worked. He became rich and famous and a lot of kids suffered because of it.

  • Delayed schedule, but everything I feel is necessary. It's too risky to allow my child to go around without vaccination. There are many poeple who come into this country bringing disease that I can prevent 100% by vaccinating my child.

  • It seems that a lot of people are still confused by a study that was published several years ago claiming to have found a correlate between childhood vaccination and autism. Further investigation has since revealed that the author's conclusions were not only false, but fraudulent. No CREDIBLE research has been able to link autism with childhood vaccination.

Unfortunately, lingering misinformation has led to an increase in rates of preventable infectious diseases. As a scientist and a mama-to-be, I strongly encourage you to vaccinate your children according to your pediatrician's recommendations. While vaccinations pose no PROVEN risk, infectious diseases (like measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, etc) certainly do!

My heart goes out to your friend with autistic children. I can understand that she might find some comfort in having something to blame for their condition. However, the sooner we let go of these false beliefs, the sooner we can shift our attention to finding the real cause of this terrible disorder.

  • I will, because I know if my child contracted a disease that could've been prevented, I would never forgive myself.

However, I think in the vast majority of cases, the vax are unnecessary.  Diseases, like Polio, have nearly been eradicated, thanks to vaccines and I highly doubt that in Small Town, USA where I live, that there will be a huge Polio outbreak.  The actual numbers of many of the diseases we vaccinate for are soooo low...

I don't vaccinate for chicken pox or flu.  I think the less vaccines, the better.

First, there was no correlation statistically to begin with. Then it came out the doctor over the study fabricated most all of his data. So don't believe all the BS you read because journalists are the worst about skewing statistical data.

As for your friend, autism does run in families. So having one child with it, makes it more likely to happen with a second.

  • I have vaccinated my 3 yr old, and she is current on all of her shots...this lo will be too. I have heard the statement that the numbers of these diseases have decreased greatly and some believe they are no longer needed. The reason the numbers have decreased is because everyone got vaccinated and therefore the chances of getting the disease has decreased. If everyone chooses to stop vaccinating, we will again suffer some sort of epidemic, whether it be something as simple as chicken pox, or full blown polio outbreaks. Everyone has their own opinion, but I will vaccinate!

  • There was a study recently done that showed that children who get the Chicken Pox vaccine are at a greater risk for having a bad case of the shingles as an adult.  This is why it's not a good idea to jump on the vaccination band wagon.

My son is almost 22 yrs. and there were'nt nearly as many vaccinations back then.  When my DD was born (almost 7 yrs ago) I was told that she would get one or more vaccinations per visit until her 3 yr well checkup.  When I took her in for her 4 yr well checkup I was told that she would be getting more vaccinations.  (What a suprise they added more...)  By then I had done my own research (instead of blindly going along with the Dr.) and had decided she would be exempt from then on.  (This is NOT hard to do.  Just google vaccination exemptions for your state.  You basically just have to say that it's against your religion or your religious beliefs.  You do not need to be of any specific religious denomination.  You may also have to give the Dr. a note saying that, but WILL have to give your childs school a note).

When your Dr., nursery school, or any school for that manner tells you that a vaccination is "Required", it's just their way of trying to get their way.  Required is a bully word.  The fact is, NO ONE, not the Dr., the Government, or anyone else can force you to have your child vaccinated as they DO NOT want to be held legally responsible for any bad reactions or even the death of your child.  Yes, vaccines can cause death, and not only in babies and children, adults die too.

My unvaccinated child is not a threat to your vaccinated child.  If anything, your vaccinated child is dangerous to mine, especially if they've just been injected with a live virus.  Guess who didn't get the flu all winter long while we watched our Flu vaccinated friends get the flu...multiple times?  My DD has hardly missed any school this year.

My 89 yr old grandmother made it this far without having measles, etc., and has had very few vaccinations.  Eat healthy and take your vitamins.  Did you know that people who get the Flu are Vitamin D deficient?

P.S.  If you did your research, you would see that Polio started it's decline before anyone was ever vaccinated...

I guess my point is, do your own research and most importantly, protect your children.  No, we won't be vaccinating anymore.

Those numbers are so low because people vaccinate their children. The more people neglect to, or find excuses not to vaccinate, those rates will rise. Vaccinations work when the majority of people participate.

    1. The rate of vaccines that can cause death is so low that it is considered negligible. Typically these happen from allergic reactions and not the actual virus killing you.

    2. Not every state allows you to not vaccinate for philosophical/personal beliefs reasons. A lot of them only allow medical and religious exemptions.

    3. Just as you say you didn't get the flu because you didn't vaccinate, there are those who do get the flu if they don't vaccinate. It is about doing what works for you. There are plenty of people who have chronic illnesses and these vaccines because contracting the actual virus could kill them.

    4. The bold text is purely speculation, especially since you have no actual data to back it up.

I was planning on asking this question myself someday, and I now see that it's widely debated & I'd do best to just find my own opinion on the matter by doing intelligent, factual research.

FWIW I really appreciate the scientific info provided and will talk it over w/ DH as well.

    Some interseting facts

    1. Not every illness that gives you a fever and achiness is the flu. There are about a billion viruses out there in the world. Just becuase someone gets sick or feels achy does not mean they have they flu. They could have virus X239058 or whatever. The flu is a very specific virus. The flu shot does not protect you from the other billion viruses out there, so yes you can still get sick and feel like crap but that doesn't mean its the flu (if you got the flu shot).

    2. You can't get flu from the flu shot as the virus is inactivited/dead. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/keyfacts.htm

Your unvaccinated child DOES put my child at risk.  Vaccines work, in part, due to herd immunity.  The more people who think like you, and choose not to vaccinate - the less effective the vaccines are.

I have vaccinated DD, but on a schedule I feel comfortable with.  Like, she didn't get the Hep vaccine in the hospital.  She wasn't at risk for Hep so we waited and it was done with other vaccines.  I also delayed her MMR.  Basically, at every appointment when a vaccine is on the schedule, we discuss it with our pediatrician and decide if it's the right time.  During one of her appts DD had a cold so we delayed the vaccine that could have given her a fever also, since she was already feeling sick.  I have Dr Sears alternate vaccine schedule and his logic appeals to me.

To each their own, but I do wish more people weren't so scared of vaccines because of misinformation.
