no movement...question

Hi everyone! Just a quick question...I haven't really experienced any movement yet. At least that I can differentiate from my normal odd sounds/feelings. I am heavier and thought that this might impact when/how much movement I feel. When did everyone first feel movement? Is my weight theory at all correct? I'm not nervous...yet. We go in on Thursday for our AS...so I am trying to just relax until than. Thanks for the input!

Re: no movement...question

  • Do you know where your placenta is? If it's anterior (on the front wall of your uterus), then it may take a while before you feel any movement. I'm overweight, but I'm definitely feeling movement. You should feel it on the inside, not the outside - that might inhibit your DH from feeling it sooner, but not you. GL!

  • It could be somewhat related to weight. My guess is that you are feeling some movement, but writing it off as normal body gurgles and such. When you feel the movement clearly, you then realize that you'd been feeling little things for a few weeks. That's what happened with my first. I think I 'knew' I was feeling him at 22 weeks. This time I knew right away because I knew what it felt like, KWIM?

  • Could be weight related, but also if you have an anterior placenta (where it attaches at the front of the uterus) it's normal not to feel movement until after about 24 weeks.  Even then the kicks wouldn't be felt as strongly.

  • I've read in a few baby books that weight can impact when you feel movement (doesn't mean LO isn't moving about though!).

I officially starting noticing noticeable movement around 18 weeks. They've gotten stronger since then but they've also gotten less frequent (I have my days).

  • I didn't start feeling movement until 20 weeks and some days. It is normal not to feel anything up until 22 weeks. I would mention it at your appointment but I don't think you have any reason to worry.

  • Thanks everyone! I'm not too worried about it since this is my first and don't really know what is what at the moment. I am def. going to mention it a my doctor's appointment on Thursday, though. Just for some clarity!

  • I've also read in several books, as a PP mentioned, that weight can impact it.  I've always been underweight and felt the first kick at 14 wks (and baby hasn't stopped moving since!), but I have two girlfriends, one 3 wks and one 6 wks ahead of me, and I've felt everything weeks before them (including the hips stretching, the boob leaking, etc.)

  • Weight definitely is not an issue for me. I've been stick thin my whole life (5'10 115 lbs), and don't feel a thing at over 22 weeks so don't feel like it's because you are overweight even the slightest. I do know I have an anterior placenta - so I agree - check on that and see if that could be why!! I also think for me at least that I just dont know what I'm feeling for, so it makes it harder...so maybe that's the same as you? I would suggest getting a doppler - it really helps alleviate all my stress since I dont feel movement!!

Hope you get feeling LO soon!! It will happen!

  • I think I feel things here and there. I had my A/S last week and was SO surprised to see how much he really was moving. After I got a picture in my head of him moving around I think I am actually more in tune to him and feel like I am feeling movement more often this week.

  • I am overweight as well with my first.  I felt flutters that could be mistaken for stomach issues/gas starting at week 19.  Today was the first day I actually felt a few pretty hard kicks.  They woke me up!

  • I'm not overweight, and still no movement--I think picksthemusic is right on with the whole anterior/posterior placenta thing.  I have an anterior placenta, and our midwife told me last week it might take until 24 weeks to feel baby as a result.  GL on Thursday!
