Stroller Recommendations?

What type of stroller are you getting with LO? I have had the Graaco's and the assorted other kinds from Target etc. I was looking at a few from Amazon...brands I'd never heard of that seem pretty neat. Thanks in advance!

Re: Stroller Recommendations?

  • right now I have a Baby Jogger City Mini... it really isn't a "jogger" stroller.. but it is AWESOME...and fairly affordable as far as strollers go....and it folds with one hand.. comes in cool colors... fantastic canopy for sun coverage (we're really fair skinned)... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.. (only downside is the basket underneath isn't too big.. but I use Mommy Hooks to hang my bag on and it works out fine.)...but now that I'm having another (and if you THINK you might have another you might consider getting this too...)... I got the Baby Jogger City Select, which is a "convertible" type stroller..that has 16 diffferent configurations.... it can be a single or a double!!  Neatest thing...so excited to use it.. still in the box.. I got the 2010 model on sale (half the price of 2011 model) at albeebaby.com... which is a good place to get the City Mini, too.

Good luck! OH.. when the baby is small and still in the infant seat.. I used the snap and go type stroller frame...lightweight and easy to fold.  I had a Snugrider to go with my snugride carseat by Graco.

  • We have the big, bad, Bugaboo Frog for Margaux.  We love it, but even so if we had to do it all over we'd probably just go with the City Mini.  The bugaboo is waaaaay too expensive for what it is.  Not saying it's not great, because it really is, but jeez.

Since we're going to have two now, we're looking into getting rid of the bugaboo and picking up the City Select.  It really does look nifty.

  • Oh yay! I'm looking online right now to see these things. THANK YOU for the tips! We will only need one stroller for one LO (no plans to have more). I wondered what to do with the infant seat. The snap-in things are fine....but then AFTER they grow out of the infant seats, I generally don't like the strollers they 'snapped into'--and wonder if there's another way to do it? I will begin here and of course...keep sending recommendations my way! Thanks everyone!

  • I don't have any kids yet, awaiting #1 :) but my sister does.  Hers are ages 3, 2 and 1..yeah she is nutz :)  She has a Valco double stroller and the other day we were talking about what stroller I should get and she reccomended the Valco Tri.  It is a little bit pricey but she said she LOVES hers and she used a cheaper one before biting the bullet and getting the more expensive double,  Valco makes a great stroller.  If you go on Amazon just type in Valco strollers and you can paruse the strollers.  What I also like about amazon is you get to read the reviews from real people on what they like and what they don't.

  • we went to babies r us and 'test drove' most of their strollers.  I was pretty unimpressed with 99% of them - they were flimsy and mostly plastic.  We registered for  BOB Revolution - a little pricey but even used they go FAST and for nearly full price...

Our need list was: durable, jogging/running capable, resale value.

What we don't need:  a travel system, more than one baby

Our car seat will be Britax Marathon 70 (I don't want to schlep baby AND carseat around) so being able to combine car seat and stroller wasn't important.

Obviously we don't have it - and haven't used it yet.  But one of the places locally I like to run has other running moms and 90% of the have BOBs...

We have 3 different strollers for 3 different uses.  I love my baby jogger citi mini for the mall and places where i need a smaller stroller.  I have a bob ironman for jogging/walking.  This one is not good for going to the mall etc since it has a fixed front well.  We love it for jogging and walking.  I have done several 5ks with our ds in it.  I have even done a minor trail race with it.  My DH takes our ds for 10 milers in it.    The 3rd stoller we have is a snap n go stroller for putting the carrier car seat on.  we used it when we used the carrier.  it worked well for that.

  • I did the Snap and Go when DD was in the carrier. It was great bc it was so small and easy to get around.

When DD outgrew the carrier, I got the Peg Pereggo Aria. I love it because it weighs 13 lbs, big basket, and reclines for naps.

  • We started with a Graco travel system...great stroller but just huge.  Took up my whole trunk when folded up and heavy.  We transitioned to a Maclaren Techno XLR...great stroller whihc I got to accomodate my larger than average son (this model is the largest umbrella stroller out there) and my tall husband (adjustable handles).  If I were to do it again 1st time around, I would get the Sanp and Go to start with.  Still would recommend the Maclaren.  But now will get the Joovy Caboose Stand On Tandem Stroller so I can accomodate the baby and my toddler.

  • This is our first baby, but we plan to have a second within a year or so (yikes)!  So we are registering for the Baby Jogger City Select.  It works like a snap n go in the beginning and will accept pretty much any carseat.  Then it converts to a regular stroller and then to a double stroller (tandem, not side by side).  We were also considering the Britax B Ready, but the City Select was lighter and seemed more usable as a double because it has "stadium seating" whereas with the Britax the second kid was not really able to look out.  It wasn't clear how well the Britax worked with non-Britax infant carriers.  I'm not going to lie, it's still heavy and $499 without the second seat conversion, but we're hoping it will last for the long haul.

We're also going to get an umbrella stroller - type not yet decided as something easy and light for quick trips.

  • We have 4 different strollers and I like them for different reasons and use them for different reasons.

    1. Graco travel system - this was our original with #1. Great when we had just 1 and was easy to use. Good storage basket and parent cup holder/hidden storage (for phone/keys). We used this exclusively until DD was 2.

    2. Chicco c5 umbrella stroller - originally I was driven to get this when we were going to go on a cruise w/ DD (she was 26 months at the time) and did not want to brink our Graco on the plane or islands. I got this online, basically looked for the lowest cost and didn't worry about color. I love this stroller b/c it's got a good sized basket, not flimsy, tall handles, and comfy for DD.

    3. When #2 arrived, we got the Sit and Stand from One Step Ahead. DD was a couple months shy of 3 when DS arrived. This one was great when DS was little and I primarily kept him in the car seat. It's nice b/c this is not wide and there for easily fits through aisels, doorways, etc. Also has a good sized basket. My only regret with this is I should have gotten the version where the jump seat includes a forward facing seat. Sometimes DD would prefer to face forward and sit. She could still use the jump seat, but needed to be careful. We even took this to Disney World when DS was 14 months and DD was 4.

    4. When we were planning another trip to Disney, I bought a used City Mini Double Jogger off craigslist ($200). The sit and stand is not light weight and like I said, DD wanted to face forward. This stroller is so easy to drive and fold/unfold. It's very comfy for my kids, even DD at 5+. It can carry 100 lbs combined weight. It gets through standard doorways. What it doesn't do too well with is going through some stores - the clothing racks are too close. The basket is sized well, but not that easy to get to; it's best to access through the side. Now with #3, I think I will probably invest in the converter so that it can hold a graco car seat.
