The girls just turned 16 months. Grace has been walking for a while and I'd consider her to be a "pro" now ; )
Mary actually started experimenting with walking before Grace did... 4-5 months ago! Fast forward to now - she will walk between two things that are close together, she'll walk around the house holding on to the wall, couch, etc., she'll walk if she's holding someone's hand. She will NOT walk on her own!! Hubby is convinced that she's lacking confidence. We know that she CAN walk, because we've seen her do it (she'll take probably 5 steps before she gives up and switches to crawling). It really feels like she's simply refusing to and is perfectly content not walking.
Anyone else experience this? Any tricks for boosting her confidence? Any other advice? TIA!
Re: Refusing to walk?
IUI #3 gave us the best 2nd anniv. gift ever: 2 babies! (born 03/09/10)
Peanut and Little Man are getting so big! 2 years old already!
finally blogging again at This Will Be: An Adventure
She loves the push toys! She even loves pushing her brothers around in their Little Tikes "coupe" car in the backyard. She also pushes other things around the house, like her little chair, our big dining room chairs, and the kitchen stools. We try to have her walk to us, but she just takes a few steps, smiles, and then starts crawling.
It's the strangest thing, I can't figure it out!
I'm not a mom yet...but I know that I didn't start walking until I was probably 16+ months old. I was just a lazy baby, was a very mellow calm baby, and was quite content crawling and being carried around. Some babies just walk a bit later than others. I turned out fine though
My mom was frustrated, but my grandma kept telling her it's ok. I think my grandma just liked to spoil me and wanted me to stay as baby-like as possible.
Have you continued to be very mellow? I wonder if that's just going to be her personality. DS2 walked at 9 months, and he's a crazy kid who's always getting into trouble (although he's a total sweetheart!). I'm happy the girls aren't following in his crazy footsteps! (Well, so far... fingers crossed) ; )
You've described one of my twins perfectly! She walked first, then flat gave it up. And don't worry, cause she finally started walking yesterday. She really really has to balance--her arms are always waaaay up in the air.
A friend of mine had luck having her daughter hold a board book and she would hold the other side of it then let go and she would walk on her own. Like she had support, but was actually on her own.
LOL! I think that's exactly what we're dealing with.
I forgot to mention that Mary's longest walks have been with the bribing of a cell phone... which makes me fear for her teenage future : /
