We're doign well with getting M to fall asleep on her own, even without the swaddle - although it took her an hour last night! ![]()
BUT... we're feeding on demand still over night, and she's waking up every 1.5-2 hours to feed. So that's 4 wakings and 10ish minute feeds over a 10 hour period. Add in a spell of crying or two, or just waitingfor her to fall asleep (we have to room-share, so we wait to re-enter the room til she's asleep), I'm shattered and on about 5 hours of fragmented sleep and wondering why we're doing this, when I was better rested bed-sharing. (I know why, to do with DS' and her naps, so not really asking.)
My question is this: M has been slow to gain weight. Until 3 weeks ago she was EBF. We now supplement 2oz of formula and 2oz of BM via a SNS on the last feed. We bedshared for 3 months at hte LC's recommendation that she have more access to milk. (Also partly to blame for her lazy night feeds now I think!) But I'm a bit apprehensive of cutting out night feeds, just in case her weight stagnates again. Shes at the 2nd%, with no wiggle room to lose any really. But at the same time, I can't go on with this every 90 minutes thru the night...
WWYD?
Re: ? about sleep training and night wakings
We also still feed on demand overnight. Bbay O is EBF, no supplementing and we are doing BLW so solids are very minimal. I try to cluster feed as much as possible leading up to bedtime and I put him to bed much later than most people on this board that I have read. We do bath, pjs, and reading and then cluster feed/nap every hour from 8pm to 11pm and then we all go to bed together. We co-sleep or bedshare, but normally co-sleep. For the last 6 weeks (three month growth spurt + 4 month wakeful) we were getting up every 1-2 hours to feed/fuss and then go back to sleep after about 10 minutes. Just in the last three nights, we have only been waking once between 11pm and 7:30am. If she is still waking up to feed that much during the night, she probably still needs it...you could try adding more formula to her last feeding of the night and see if that gets you an extra hour or two.
As normal practice with Baby O he stirs a lot at night, so I wait about 5 minutes from when he first starts thrashing around and fussing before I get out of bed and pick him up. A lot of the time he will fall back to sleep without needing anything. You could try to extend your nursing sessions and cut out the middle session and then go from there. Good Luck!
