how much prune juice to give LO

doc said i could give LO a little prune juice to help with constipation (we just started cereal), but didn't specify how much or if it should be diluted or what...

so what have you guys done?  how much?  did you mix it/dilute it at all?  did you just use any old prune juice (not some special baby prune juice)?  DS has never had any prune juice before so this will be totally new for him.

Re: how much prune juice to give LO

  • 1 oz juice mixed with 1 oz water/breastmilk/formula is what our pedi said. If he doesn't like the prune juice try white grape juice. Gerber makes a few different flavors.

  • Doctor told us to use pear juice first (you can only find it in baby isle) and to use 1oz pear juice to 1oz water, if that didn't work, go with 2:2 ratio.  THEN she said to try the prune juice.  She said the pear juice is a little easier on their stomach.  Also, sometimes, LO just needs some stimulation with a q-tip, but don't do this a lot, or their body will learn to rely on it.  GL!

  • I mix one oz. with 3 oz. of water and let him sip it throughout the day.  He seems to like it and it's worked pretty well.  Plus it's given us a chance to introduce the sippy cup without wasting precious BM!

  • our doc said 1 ounce mixed in with a bottle, or to try oatmeal since it has more fiber (vs rice)

  • I give one oz, straight up.  DS seems to LOVE it (gross IMO)  I don't use the gerber one, I give full-power prune.
