Think I hit a nerve in my finger with a needle

I was getting the iv ready for our cats iv fluids  (yeah, she's still not drinking and now I can't get the stupid vet to call us back anymore) and while I was trying to wrench the protective cap off the needle, I wound up stabbing myself HARD in the side of my finger. I'm pretty sure I hit a nerve because the tip of my finger is all tingly and half numb today and MAN does the side of my finger hurt. It's in a spot that is impossible to avoid too so I've bumped it a dozen times this morning already.

WHY do they make those things so hard to take off?! I mean, I know it's a needle and it's for safety but it's so hard to get off that you have to put some real muscle behind it and when you finally get it to come off (at least in my case) you end up instinctively pulling the cap back in a rebound which has now twice resulted in my sticking myself. It's a super large gauge needle too so it really smarts. I actually think I might have hit my bone last night. Ug.

  • Ouch!! These cats. You're doing IV's. I'm shoving pills down her throat. What's next?!

  • Ouch! Havyou tried twisting slightly before you pull off? I've found that helps loosen the needle.
    also, the kiddos are adorable!

Yep. I swear it makes it harder on these!

My aunt (a nurse) told me to remove the cap with pliers then at least if I rebound it won't hit me!
