growth ultrasound question

I had an ultrasound to check my cervical length and LO's growth today. They did not tell me an estimate on the baby's weight I had to watch the screen to see that "most of her" is measuring about 10 days ahead. The tech did not tell me anything about size.

Do you think my OB would be able to give me an estimate on LOs size and weight when I have my next appointment? Or should I just base it off of what a 30 week baby would be?

I wish my sonographers were allowed to tell me more.

Re: growth ultrasound question

  • I know from having so many of them, they don't always check the weight. Sometimes I have to ask specifically and even then they've said "we're not checking that today" It really depends on the instructions they received from your Dr.

  • I had one today and they could not tell me how long he was, but using length/width measurements of body parts (legs, arms, etc...) they were able to give me his weight at 3 lbs 1 oz. So hopefully your OB will be able to tell you something.

I had an u/s about a month ago to check my cervical length & growth. It was done at the MFM office so they send over the results to my OB. I would assume that you could ask your OB and they could look up the results? If you had a growth u/s, they should have the weight estimate. I'm not sure 100% sure, though.

Thanks, I will ask my OB Tuesday. They did all of the usual measurements, head, stomach, legs etc so I was able to watch in the lower corner where it would pop up 30w 1d, 30w 2d etc.

  • I would assume they will have an estimate in your file, but I could be wrong. We have growth ultrasounds every four weeks and they always type in the different estimates and then give us a calculated weight. FWIW, we had a growth ultrasound at exactly 30w and she was in the 52% percentile and they estimated her to be 3 lb 5 oz. All of her measurements were from 30w0d-31w or so. So, your little girl might be close to that estimate, but who knows- there's probably way more that goes into it. :)

Thanks! I just went ahead and googled it and got a chart that says 3 lbs at 30 weeks so I am guessing shes right around 3 lbs now.

  • He should get a printed report of the ultrasound measurements and be able to tell you what it said. He should also be able to give you a good estimate by looking at your fundal height, weight gain, and feeling up your uterus...you know what i mean? If you're wanting to know an estimate of birth weight towards 39-40 weeks, I doubt they'd do an acurate guess this early on.
