So I went to my checkup yesterday and am 4cm dilated! Last week I was absolutely nothing. Funnily enough, I started the appointment out asking her if some women just don't feel Braxton Hicks because I really don't have any sort of feeling she's coming soon. Needless to say, the Dr was surprised when she examined me. The Dr also ended up stripping my membranes! She didn't even ask and I didn't know she was going to do it until she actually was doing it. (Lemme tell you, OUCH). I just ended up feeling a bit crampy for the rest of the evening.
So anyway, anyone else not feeling any contractions? I've heard despite how "far along" I am, it really means nothing because some people still end up being late. Just thought it was odd that last week, nothing & this week 4cm! ![]()
Re: 4cm at Doctors Appointment and never felt a contraction?
Oh no- I think I would have freaked out if they did that to me without even a heads up or anything. FFS
Congrats on all the progress! Maybe the baby will be here soon! *squee!*

I thought she was just checking my progress and all the sudden she's like "Oh btw I'm stripping your membranes, Oh...there's the baby's head!" I was like, 'What?!' O__O
Maybe you were ok with that, but I would be furious if the dr. went and stripped membranes with out double checking with me! Wow....
Good luck with everything and hoping you get to meet your baby soon!
Ditto. I'd kick a doctor in the face.
Yeah, I really thought they were supposed to ask. I've always really liked my Dr but I don't know if I would have done it is she did ask. My sister ended up being overdue and when they did it, she said it did nothing for her except cause the cramps and told me if they did ask, to not do it, hah.
Thanks for all the positive labor vibes! This is my first and I'm getting quite nervous!
I feel all of them and I am only 1cm dilated.
If my doctor stripped my membranes I don't think I'd be mad because I want him out but at the same time I would probably be annoyed that she didn't ask. If it brought me my baby I would be happy but if it just made the rest of my day suck I'd be a little peeved.
With DD, I went to the hopsital because I wasn't feeling any fetal movement and had some blood (but not how bloody show had been described to me). Anyway, they checked me and I was 4cm (at 37w, 6d) and I had NO clue. I did start feeling crampy later that morning but really, it didn't hurt until my water broke. The bag of waters can act as a cushion. (I had her later that night)
But you're right that you can walk around at 4cm for weeks. These babies can really keep us on our toes!!
