Anyone else waiting to tell boss/work until well into second tri?

I had a bad experience telling with my second pregnancy so I'm opting to not say anything until at the very earlies 15 weeks, but more than likely I will tell somewhere between 18-22 weeks.  In the meantime I'm wearing my loosest shirts and I just went through my maternity clothes to dig out the maternity shirts that don't look like maternity shirts for when I need them to hide it a bit more.  I try to sit down a lot and wear a big bulky sweater at work (it's cold in my lab) that I pull around me when I'm not sitting.  And I work with men so they probably wouldn't notice anything anyway.

Me!  I won't tell until 16-18 weeks.  This is my 3rd baby in 3 years so I dread telling them.  The good part is I work from home and only visit the office quarterly.  My next visit will be the end of June so at that point I will be 18-19 weeks along and will probably tell them then.

  • I'm going to wait as long as possible...hopefully another month or so. I'm covering my co-worker's position while she's out on maternity leave starting any day now and I know my boss is going to be like, oh great another one KU as soon as I tell her...so I'm choosing to wait a little while...

I'm waiting as long as possible! I'd love to make it to 20 weeks. We'll see what the belly does over the next few weeks!

ETA: Another woman in my dept. had her baby in early March, and said she was coming back. She JUST told our boss Monday she's not returning. I want to put some space between that news and my announcement, even though I'll definitely be back.

  • My direct boss knows because we have somebody possibly retiring in November, and she is trying to create another position in addition to that one so I wanted her to have plenty of warning.  We are a small group though, so having one person out for 12 weeks affects everybody.  I will not be telling anyone else until after my NT scan, so probably around 14 weeks.  My boss is keeping it quiet for me.

My boss knows, but I haven't told any of my co-workers yet.

  • Me - I waited until 17 weeks during my last pregnancy and then lost my daughter at 22.5 weeks.  This time around I'm just waiting until after the anatomy scan - so 18 weeks.

me too - i'm going to try and wait until i'm 16 weeks but who knows how much I'll be showing.  If I start to look too obvious, I'll have to spill the beans sooner but definitely not before 2nd trimester.

  • Im waiting! I just started a new job and I want to prove to them that I can do the job well before everyone just looks at me as the pregnant one! I would also like to get to know my boss a little better before I spring that kind of news on her! Hopefully I can wait until 17-18 weeks!

  • I'm waiting until I get  my contract for next year--non tenured teacher. I'm hoping to get my contract within the next two weeks b/c I'm dying to tell my co-workers!

  • I am going to try and hide it for at least 4.5 more weeks!  I'm a teacher in PA and right now our district is considering the furlough of 20+ teachers, plus other staff, due to the governor's proposed budget cuts to education.  Even though I know it's illegal to be let go due to pregnancy, I think they could definitely get away with it since so many others would be furloughed in the district, plus districts all across the state.  Don't get me wrong, it would be "convenient" to be on unemployment and have an extended "maternity leave" but I don't know how long it would take for them to bring me back.  It was hard enough to get a teaching job in PA.  I just don't want to give them any more of a reason to consider me disposable for next year Sad  It stinks not being able to share the news and I won't post anything on FB either.

  • I'm waiting for another few weeks. I like having the news as something that is special and private; I know once the office knows, it will be part of the daily conversation.  Luckily, I have not started to show at all.

I was planning on telling my boss in the next week or two, but she recently moved to a different chief position.  So as of yesterday I have a new chief that I report to and I do not know her very well.  I'm pretty nervous about our first meeting--which is not even scheduled yet!  I just don't want our first check-in/meeting to be about me being pregnant.  I think it will affect the way she works with me...I do not want her wondering if I'll do a good job or if I'll be back after my leave.

  • I was planning on telling work next week (14 weeks) but now my boss is on vacation all next week and I am debating whether or not to tell. I really want to put it on facebook though (and I have work people on there, including my direct supervisor).
