I have a simple yet silly question. I know that your baby accounts for some of the weight gain, and so do the placenta, amniotic fluid, larger breasts and uterus, extra fat stores, and increased blood and fluid volume. So if I eat healthy and exercise during pregnancy and only gain my recommended amount (25-30lbs), will I lose the extra weight immediately after giving birth? I know everyone is different but I am confused on why some women struggle to lose the baby weight. Is it because they gained too much weight during pregnancy or because naturally it's just harder to lose any weight gained during pregnancy (even the recommended amount)?
Re: Silly question
It's really just different for everyone. Also it takes your uterus a little bit to actually shrink back down to regular size, which makes your tummy still look big for a few weeks after. Some women get right back down to their normal size after, some weigh the same but are shaped differently so end up in a different size, some have extra fat to work off.
Genetics have a lot to do with it too. Also, it is exhausting with a newborn and hard to find time to "eat right". You might go all day without time to eat a meal, and grab something unhealthy b/c of no time to cook.
Personally, after my first child, my hips ended up wider, and after the initial weight fell off I had an extra 12. Eventually I was back to regular weight about 1 year later. After baby #2 after weight came off I was 10 pounds over which I never lost, now baby #3 I was another 10 pounds more than when I started- adding up to 20 pounds total. I actually started losing weight again about 1 month ago and am down 8 more pounds so I have 12 more to go.
