I am thinking I might wait until after LO is born to buy one. I don't plan on pumping for at least the first two weeks and I want to make sure I actually can breastfeed first. Is anyone else thinking of waiting to purchase one?
I plan on waiting as well to see if I'll even be able to breastfeed as well. I need to call my insurance company to see if they will help cover the cost. They are so expensive.
We are also waiting, I want to see how I do with breastfeeding. We also are going to rent one from our hospital first and see how we do with breast feeding and pumping before buying one. If we get one off our registry we will wait to open until we know for sure.
I am waiting too. I am going to be a SAHM so I don't even know how much it will get used. I just want to see if I really need one, especially before we buy a big expensive one. I might just end up buying a hand pump for rare occasions I need to pump.
I have been wondering this myself. I am going to discuss it with my MW at my next appointment.
My only concern is that I might have to pump to help my milk come in, and I would at least like to be able to give my baby some colostrum if he/she doesn't latch on right away.
The one I registered for was already sent to me. But, even if it hadn't I think I would have gotten it fairly soon after baby was born at the latest, just to be able to get it cleaned and have it on hand. I've got a great lactation consultant on board and a ton of support so I'm not worried about breastfeeding.
I just bought mine at Buy Buy Baby. I don't plan on opening it until I know that I can breastfeed, but I'd rather have it on hand rather than run out or have someone buy it for me, if I can't get out. They have a 3 month reutrn policy, so I have until the beginning of August to return it. I think this will give me enough time to decide, I hope. You could always wait until closer to your due date to buy it.

We are also going to wait to make sure I can breastfeed before we get one. I would like to try it in the hospital just to make sure everything goes well first.
I'm planning just to make sure I can breastfeed. I'm also going to see if my hospital rents them out and if that would be cheaper/easier vs buying one. I'm planning on staying home until the baby is about 3-4 months so I have time, but want to pump so H can share in the feedings.
I'm waiting. I need to make sure BF works for me first.
My friend who had a baby on 4/13 bought hers about a week after he was born only because she produces so much breast milk, she needed to relieve herself, so she picked one up to start storing it for future use.

I bought mine because it has a rebate now. I am now returning it because FSA allows deductions and my FSA takes effect June 1st. The rebate goes through August 31st.
I will still buy it before the baby comes though. I got it on amazon (bought it off my registry). We're Prime members, so I can return it for up to a year. I am not opening the box until I am sure I have milk.

I'm not getting one till it is closer time to return to work which won't be until December. I might get a manual pump for those times I need it or if I need to work on supply issues. Since this will probably be our only baby, I plan to rent from the hospital instead of purchasing. I think it will be cheaper.

I bought mine before DD was born, and I was happy I didn't have to get it afterwards when things were very hectic and I was very tired. I think it's good to have all of the essentials beforehand, if possible.
All of the lactation experts say that BFing is natural and our bodies are made to do it, and very few people actually physically can't do it. So it's very likely you will be able to do it. And, I imagine if you keep the pump in the box and keep the receipt you can return it, right?
I bought a cheap electric one before because I didn't want to spend $200 & then what if I couldn't BF? I'm glad I did. DD ended up having to stay in the nursery because of some breathing issues & the hospital was out of the pumps to rent or use while there. I would have had to start my pumping experience with a manual one if I hadn't bought my own ahead of time.
if mine is not bought for my shower (which i doubt it will be), i will be buying mine with my registry completion discount.
i've heard that you only have a certain amount of time to return a pump. i colud be wrong, but i think it is 45 days for bru.
i read that your baby should be fed from a bottle even if you plan of strictly nursing. what will your baby do if you get sick and cannot feed him/her? i also read that you should introduce formula here and there for the same reason.
Re: Is anyone else waiting to get a breast pump?
If I don't recieve the one I registered for as a gift (which I don't think I will - it's over $200), then we are waiting til he's born to buy it.
