DH won't go to the ball...nbr

Sooo DH is in the army guard and I had nooo idea that they have a ball every year. He never even mentioned it! He said he doesn't want to go so he never brought it up. The thing is, he deploys in November and I want to go to the ball so I can meet some of the other wives in my area. I've met some of them, the wives of the men he works with every day (even though he's in the guard, he works on base full time as a civilian employee) but I know there are many more that I've yet to come across. I'm bummed Sad I don't even know when it is, or if it's already passed. Blah.

  • DH is usually like this to. He says it's because he works with those guys for 60+ hours a week, why would he want to spend his free time around them too. At first it made me so mad but now I get it. This past Christmas I ended up getting him to agree to go to his Command Holiday party and he had a great time so who knows for future events?

  • I don't know if the Army Guard ball is the same as the Army's ball but I think theirs is in June.  You could google it to see if it's passed yet.  Usually it's on a day to commemorate their birthday.

Our birthday ball is mandatory, maybe yours is the same. If DH hadnt bought a ticket, he would have had duty or been assigned to work it somehow.

  • my DH is the same way...he buys the tickets anyways so he doesn't have to do staff duty....he tells me when it is, and if I really want to go I have to find a babysitter, but since I don't know anyone here it's a little hard to do that, so we end up not going

  • I know EXACTLY how you feel.  My DH is Navy and I'm also prior Navy so I knew about the Navy Ball.  Every year I ask if we can go and he always says "No! I hate the people I work with why would I want to see them at the Ball too?" lol I got him one time to go to a Command xmas party but he vowed never again!
  • I don't think it's mandatory, he said the only guys that go are the ones who want to kiss some ass. Blah. I told him to get down on his knees and pucker up! ....but it didn't change his mind and so we aren't going. It's apparently sometime in June Sad
  • I have never been to a ball but that is not thanks to the lovel USMC.  The DH is always deployed or training in November so we will see maybe this year...I doubt it but I am still hoping.

As for meeting other wives I would contact the FRO -family readiness officer [not sure if that is what the army guard calls them] when a unit deploys they always get wives together for meet and greets or small talk.  Sometimes they will have mommy and me outing or a book club.  See if you can meet some of the oher wives this way.

    Good luck!!!!

P.S. I bought a paper link chain to count down the day my hubby returns.  I got it on Etsy, the shop name is JRCROWN I think.  She is a military wife, really nice.
