Weight Watchers?

Do any of you ladies have any experience with weight watchers? I have never used, but was thinking about after LO is here, I might try. Just wanted some opinions. TIA :)

Re: Weight Watchers?

  • I used it a couple of years ago, met my goal and kept it off.  I plan on starting WW in September and I'm excited about the recent changes they made too.

  • I loved weight watchers before I became pregnant and can't wait to go back on it after I have LO.  I enjoy that nothing is off limits and that you can always live like a "normal" person -- for example, not saying no to going out with friends to eat or having a drink occasionally.  The plan is extremely livable if you are willing to plan. :)  Let me know if you have any specific questions!

  • How soon after LO do you guys think you can join? I am planning on BF if that makes a difference.

  • I am planning on seeing how it goes -- If breastfeeding is well established and my doctor okays it I am planning on 6 weeks.  Eating right can always be started whenever, but including exercise and such probably should be determined on how you feel.  There is a breastfeeding plan that gives you extra points to make sure that you are getting enough calories to continue BF.

  • I plan on joining again after little one is born (I did it for a few months before my wedding and really enjoyed it).  They do have a breastfeeding plan, but I have not researched it yet.

I lost about 35lbs in 2009 and up until I got pregnant, kept it off as a lifetime member Smile.  They started up their 'new program' around the time that I found out I was expecting, so I only know a little bit about the new material (my Mom is a member and filled me in).  I really enjoyed going and believe in their message of weight loss being a 'lifestyle' change.  They give great tips/advice and above all, it works!

I plan on going back after LO arrives... They told me that as a lifetime member, I had 3 'free' months to get as close as possible to my goal weight (which now seems lightyears away Embarrassed) and after that, the normal lifetimer rules apply.

Anyway, I realize that you are thinking of just starting for the first time... If you want, you could start right up...or wait a little bit til your hormones and body get slightly back to normal.  And if you're wondering, they do have a breastfeeding option.  Its just a matter of an adjustment of your daily points allowment.

It really worked for me and I recommend it Big Smile!  Its really not even a diet per say, just a re-eval of what we think of as meals, portions and identifying when we're actually hungry.  Sorry so long!  Maybe I should be a spokesperson, haha...

  • I'm a WW lover too and can't wait to go on as soon as LO is here. They have a breastfeeding plan that worked great with my last baby. I'm kind of bummed I'll have to start over again and buy all of the new material because the system has changed. I also have to relearn the new points system! But I swear by WW and would never try anything else.

  • I've done the online programs twice with success. First time after I stopped walking all over a college campus and got a real job where they liked pizza, second time was after I had DD. I plan to start back on WW online and the couch to 5K program once I get the all clear PP.

  • Thank you so much ladies :) I definitely want a lifestyle change and not just a diest. I will probably wait until 6 weeks pp to join, I looked at the website a little but going to look more into it now. It is so awesome to hear about all of your successes. I also think I am going to talk to b/f about weight watchers for men,Idk if he will go for it but maybe if we do it together he will be more inclined :) Has anyone done the online program or just the in person one?

  • I lost 20 lbs after weaning DD on it. It was fast and easy if you follow the plan to a T (which I did). The ONE thing I did not like, which they have addressed with the new point system, is that the way it is (was) set up, I felt they really, really pushed the use of junky carb heavy food like 100 cal packs, sugar free and fat free chemical-laden non-food products, because healthy things like fruit were too many points.

They've changed it to take into account proteins (yay!) and have given more leeway with fruits and veggies. I am really excited to start again.

  • Thanks for all your valuable input, you ladies are AWESOME!....I had gastric bypass 7 years ago when I was in college and lost over 170 pounds. I have kept it all off, and gaining weight (even for my baby) has been a very hard and emotional thing for me to do. The only thing that has made me really be able to gain the weight I need to gain, is knowing I will have some support in getting it off again. One last question, how are the fee/dues/payment system structured at WW?

  • I've done weight watchers twice.  The first time I was in High school and I went to meetings where I couldn't relate to grown women talk about their husbands and kids.  The second time I had a much better experience.  I actually quit because I found out I was expecting LO.  I did the all on-line version and I lost about 30 lbs in 3 months.  I still had a lot to lose but they don't want you to do it if you are pregnant.I think WW helped me get pregnant and what I learned there helped me in gaining too much weight this pregnancy.
  • I LOVE WW! I was on WW last year from January to October (I quit when I got my BFP) and I lost almost 45 lbs. I left the ticker in my siggy as my reminder of what I accomplished before and that I can do it again Smile. I never felt like I was on a diet--I really made lifestyle changes for the first time in my life. I've battled my weight my whole life and with WW it was like i could finally see the light--I was finally getting real results and didn't feel like I was being deprived. I will be back on WW this summer after our LO arrives!
  • Did it.  Loved it.  Will do it again when LO is born.  I am especially excited that they've revamped the program to raise the points of the crappy carby things like mini-cupcakes and reduced the pts for protein and fruit.  I seems to incorporate much better and healthy principals now.

  • I have joined WW a few times over the years and I will likely do it again after LO is born. It has always been a great program. DH and I have also done it together, which has worked out really well. The first time we joined was a month or so bf I got PG with our DS, our 1st child. I, of course, had to quit the weigh-ins when I got PG and DH went on to reach his goal. That was definitely a different experience, I gained a bunch of weight and DH lost a bunch. I would definitely recommend WW!

Also, I have done the online program and gone to the actual WW facilities to be weighed. Going in person to WW worked way better for me, bc I knew someone else would be weighing me and it motivated me more. That's just me though. I was never good about going to the meetings, but a lot of people say that it is helpful to attend them as well.

  • I loooooved WW. I especially love their new program because it's a lot more focused on eating more protein and not just getting all your points in 100 calorie packs.

I'll be an AW again and say I lost all my baby weight with DS#1 plus some (almost 50 pounds total) doing WW and Crossfit.

ETA: They have a breastfeeding program that I did also. Back then it was an extra 10 points if you're EBF and 5 extra if you're BFing and supplementing with formula or baby food. I'm sure it's changed because the points system has changed but it's something like that. Also - I found it very important for me to attend the weekly meetings. Weighing in every week really helped keep me accountable and I learned a lot during the meetings.

This is exactly what I'll be doing as well!  I was following WW (lost 65 lbs) & C25K right before my BFP and can't wait to get back on track!

  • I did WW last fall for a couple of months prior to getting pregnant & lost 12 lbs!  I have already talked to H & told him it's a must after LO arrives...probably thinking September (about 6 wks after due date)...looking forward to it!! Oh, did online & will do that again - loved how it worked into my life & w/ LO & H's work schedule, I'd be hard-pressed to go to meetings.
  • I plan on going on it after DS # 2 arrives.

My mom and one of my BFFs lost 50 +lbs on it.  I've heard the plan has changed in the past year, I have a ton of older program sh!t that I was planning on using.

  • I also did WW from August of '09 until my BFP in October.  During that time I lost almost 14lbs (was like 2lbs away from my goal weight when I got pregnant!).  I went from having a wedding dress that didn't fit anymore and had to be let out to my last fitting the week before my wedding having her tie it as tight as she could because I had lost so much since my last fitting.  It was awesome!  I plan on start back up within two weeks of coming home.  I will have to go and get the new material since I stopped like 2 weeks before they came out with it.  My OB actually encouraged me to get back on it as soon as I felt ready since they do offer the extra points to make up for breastfeeding.  I cannot wait to feel great again!  I figured if I can start 2 weeks after and then by 6 weeks start exercising again I should be in great shape to meet my goals by mid October.

Good luck to all of you ladies who are rejoining the program.  It is by far the best thing I have ever done for myself to lose weight and I promote it to anyone who wants to loose weight.

  • I did it for a few months before my wedding and had great results.  The last few times I gave it a try I couldn't lose any weight so I was disappointed but I think the problem was with me - not WW.  I'd recommend it if you are interested.  It definitely was worth it. I just need to do anything to lose wt. after LO is here too - I want to try nutri system or jenny craig.
