I am looking for some serious inspiration regarding cute outfits. And given the styles I saw on HDBD, I need your help ladies...
I have three big weekends in a row...
My issues: pale skin, 5'8" athletic build, size 10-12 (bottom), Large (top) pre-preg, I'm obsessed with "fit" so ordering online is pretty risky for me but I can fall in love easily.
Hit me with your favorite styles gals!
Re: Looking for inspiration...
I'm home alone tonight since DH is out in the field so I don't mind looking around online for you ... but I definitely need more details.
How much do you want to spend?
What's the weather like where you live? Are the events indoors or out?
Since you want to dress up for next week's shower and I assume the circle of people (your family) is different from that of the wedding (DH's HS friends) could you wear the same dress? - also how fancy is the wedding?
For this weekend's shower you don't have much time so do you already have on hand a pair of nice shorts/capris/pants/skirt that you like and a casual but snazzy top? You could jazz it up with a fun hairdo, some nice jewelry and cute shoes.
Until you reply - motherhood maternity has some cute dresses that I've seen IN the store, and they're not expensive. So here's a few (of course there's tons more options if you browse the site or go in the store even, depending on your style). I've also noticed that both Motherhood Maternity and Pea in the Pod and Destination Maternity all have cute separates too, if you wanted to a nice slack and snazzy top or a fun skirt and classic top, etc.
I have very fair skin as well and I find that jewel tones tend to look really nice against my skin tone. Here's a nice purple dress that is somewhat casual but could be jazzed up some: https://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=964930022&MasterCategory_Id=MC3
Here's a somewhat "fancier" looking one that could easily do for a wedding that's not black tie. I've seen this one in the store a bunch of times and envy it every time: https://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=95860Z10022&MasterCategory_Id=MC3
My friend just bought this one from in the store and she looks fabulous in it. She's also got a very athletic build, and is about your height, but she's super skinny athletic build so I don't know how you feel about the horizontal stripes: https://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=97877940022&MasterCategory_Id=MC3
Here's a nice classic black dress, add some pops of color or some snazzy jewelry and you could make it as casual or dressy as you want: https://www.motherhood.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=948980023&MasterCategory_Id=MC3
You are beyond sweet! I don't think anyone wanted to touch this one
Spend: I'm willing to pay for quality/comfort/style
Weather: Michigan, so needless to say it could be a wide range 50-80... we have the most random weather
Wedding/Family Shower: good idea... I definitely could pull a 2 for 1.
This weekend: I have some great tops but not great bottoms.
Even if you have something you've worn or love to wear, I'd love to see!
I used to live in Michigan so I know how that goes! I live in NC now so most of what I have planned for "nice events" are my pre-pregnancy dresses and skirts that still fit, or a couple of non-maternity dresses I've bought in the next size up. But, most of my stuff is pretty casual and not for a couple more weeks, so that works for me.
For this weekend, check the forecast! If it's supposed to be fairly nice perhaps go out and find a nice pair of maternity khaki capris (that way you can wear them still when the lovely muggy weather hits). I saw some cute ones (I wish I could remember where, I think it was a department store) but I'm short (5'4) so they looked like high waters not capris on me! lol Shouldn't be an issue with your 5'8 frame! Then pair it with one of your tops that you love! If the forecast is not so nice, maybe a pair of nice dark wash jeans (I have a pair of Pea in the Pod ones that look really great on me and are comfy, they cost about $80 - got mine from Destination Maternity) and again pair it with one of your tops.
I'm gonna mull over your options for the following two weekend events (ie try to think of what I might wear plus what I've seen around), but I still totally vote for doubling up the outfit, especially since it's different circles of friends. Tee hee!
Kohls had some cute dresses in store, which would be good for the try on factor. I had to go with a solid one because I needed it for a funeral but saw some bright floral ones that would be great for showers and the wedding. It is hard to look online as they don't carry all of them in store but here are a few...
This style top is cute too and I very comfortable on although I wouldn't put the bow ON my bump.
I, too, just bought a cute dress from Kohls for my shower in 2 weeks. I actually had to go to the Juniors department and get a large because the ones in Womens didn't fit me right and just made me look like a wide load instead of a pregnant gal. They do have a nice variety of prints and vibrant solids.
If you do go with a short sleeveless dress (which is most of what is in stores right now) don't forget a cardigan or wrap or something in case the weather turns on you!
The ones I posted are maternity dresses/shirt. I didn't even look in the other sections so you may have a much larger selection.
Okay ... did some browsing and I just remembered this dress

I saw someone trying it on in the store and I LOVED it. She was a little bit taller than me and I would guess she'd wear a 8 or 10 pre-pregnancy (but I'm not awesome at guesstimating that stuff). Anyway it looked really great on her. Now it doesn't say it online, but in the store it also had optional spaghetti straps. If my brother's wedding was during pregnancy instead of 2 months after I'd totally seriously consider this one. Plus, it's on sale!
Also ... I noticed online a lot of pencil skirts. I think these could be really cute for your body type. Either a nice sleek black with a fancy top, a pair of nice black heels, and some elegant jewelry. Or maybe a printed skirt or one with details (like buttons or something) with a complimentary top, cute heels and funky jewelry. Plus pencil skirts are easy to find even in maternity styles in department stores, etc.
If you want a longer look (that your 5'8 frame can totally handle (can you tell I'm jealous, lol)) here's a nice looking dress with a really cute detail on the shoulder that fancies it up a bit.... oh I just noticed they only have size S in stock, but I'll post the link anyway to give you the idea. https://www.apeainthepod.com/Product.asp?product_Id=856870023&MasterCategory_Id=MC3
Thanks girls! So helpful... definitely plan on going to A Pea in the Pod... the Kohl's in our area has a limited maternity selection... but it sounds like I'll have to try it again.
Yeah the only Kohl's near me didn't have much maternity either. GOOD LUCK finding something fun and cute and comfy!! And have fun at your events!
Oh my goodness, I just saw a maternity dress on Bones that I have to have!
Seriously? No link or PIP? You must share!
ETA: AHAHAHA okay I read that wrong. Obviously you can't link the show. And darn it! Usually I watch that show! Okay ... describe it or something. I'm bored!
I'm looking for a link... it was so cute (more on the casual side) - out of the ordinary, striped with yellow belt. Ahhh, it's driving me batty not being able to find it.
ETA: Found it! Horrible print screens but you get the idea. I just like that its different - fun. I especially like the belt!
Not sure I could pull off the colors...
success!

I love that polka dot dress from A Pea in the Pod!
Good choices!
