December 2011 Moms

NOT planning on finding out if its a boy or a girl!

Is there any one else who is waiting to be surprised? DH and I think (THINK!) we can wait, the hardest part is going to be doing the nursery. There is very few bedding options out there that I like for a gender neutral nursery.

Can any provide some websites for neutral bedding?

Hope all December mommies are feeling good today!

Re: NOT planning on finding out if its a boy or a girl!

  • We go back and forth, but here's a suggestion for the gender neutral nursery.  Pick a set for a girl and a set for a boy.  Buy a cheapo crib sheet to initially dress the crib, and buy a full set after the baby is born.  Might make accessories a bit more difficult, but the baby won't really NEED anything beyond a fitted sheet.

  • We are staying team green...although it will be really hard to stay true to it during our 20 week! We have a boy and a girl...so figure this is the perfect time to have a surprise since we have everything for both! Good luck with staying team green!

  • I would like to this time around, but since we found out with DD I feel like we need to again. I keep going back and forth on this one.
  • I'm totally finding out Smile  That's what we did the first time around and I loved being able to call DD by her name from 20 weeks on.  Whenever we end up with one of each (boy and girl) the next will be a surprise!

ETA: totally missed part of your post. IMO neutral bedding is available pretty much everywhere.. so I would totally check out stores near you and see what is available

I think we're leaning toward team green this time. We found out with DD and want it to be a surprise this time.

  • We are team green all the way. I don't think it will be a problem b/c we are looking forward to the surprise and we can't think of a reason of why we need to know in advance.

I haven't had a problem finding neutral bedding.

  • Totally off topic but I love seeing a prune on our board already!!

We are finding out, I think I'll have an easier time making an emotional connection to the baby if I know the sex. I'm also a planner so this way I can prepare a little more easily in terms of decor although I'm not planning to go crazy with blue or pink but just little things here and there.

I wish I could find out today. I really want to be able to call olive a real name not just whatever fruit I am that week. Which is what H and I do now.

  • We didn't find out with our DS and won't with this one either. There are very few real surprises left in life!

Wait and buy bedding after baby is born- they don't need it right away anyway.

We are waiting...and we did with DS too.  We didn't go all out with nursery decor - it's very simple.  Latte walls, white crib with sage green sheets.  No bumpers or comforter or anything...no bedding "set."
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
    LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
    Life is beautiful!

We are going to be Team Green all the way! Since our guest room/nursery room  is already painted sage green I am doing a winnie the pooh theme to go along with that.

I really want to go Team Green, at least for most of my pregnancy... I'm tossing around the idea of having the gender in a sealed envelope and then revealing at my baby shower somehow, maybe cut open a box to release balloons or something. I would love to share that moment with my friends and loved ones versus finding out by myself at the ultrasound, especially since I don't think DH will be able to make it to my 20 week one due to work.

I've also heard of the benefits of not having a known gender for registry purposes. I know I've been kind of annoyed at others' baby showers at how much unnecessary/over the top pink/blue stuff they get instead of the useful stuff, not to mention I definitely do not want a totally pink/blue themed shower and baby stuff anything regardless of what gender. I'm a huge fan of sage/tan/brown and I'm also tossing around the idea of doing black/white for the baby's room with pops of pastel or bright colors. Not to mention, I plan on having more children, so I'd like my baby stuff to be as neutral as possible.

    There's my 0.02!

  • We're not planning ot find out. We have done it both ways, and I liked it much better not knowing, and I felt the surprise was so much bigger when I waited.  I wish I could go back and not know with my first two.

Is your baby going to be in the crib right from the start?  If not, there's no need to get bedding till after s/he is born.  If you are going to, you can always get a neutral sheet.  Baby won't use most of the bedding parts anyway.

  • I think DH and I are going to be a "one and done" family - I don't think we'll be having a second, so this is truly our last great surprise in life!  My family is super annoyed, but they can suck it, lol.  To me, whether it is a boy or girl just doesn't matter - I love my baby no matter what!

We didn't find out the first time, and I don't think we will this time either. It was such a great surprise! We got bedding from Land of Nod, and it will be passed down to #2. (Thanks to being on team green for #1, we can reuse EVERYTHING for #2 since all our gear and basics are gender neutral.)

  • We're not finding out until delivery day.  I didn't find out with my first son and it was awesome when they told us it was a boy!  I did find out with my other 3 boys though and, although it was special finding out wasn't quite the same.  Another reason I'm not finding out is that I do have 4 BOYS and if this baby is a boy, I want to be holding my little one when they announce it while I'm falling in love. Instead of walking around for several months thinking " O.M.G. I have 5 BOYS, what am I gonna do with 5 boys?"  lol
  • We are not finding out.  I am a little stressed because we are planning for 2.  We will not behaving anymore....2 will be more than enough!  I just want this special gift of the baby being delivered and them shouting out what it is!  Although it is quite teacherish of me, I planned on decorating with Dr. Seuss ABC pattern by Lab Trend.  We will go with green.  Our third bedroom was going to be an "extra" furniture room, but now we are going to need baby stuff storage, since we have a ranch and 2 babies coming.

Another reason why we aren't finding out is that my DH has 4 nieces and his only first cousin, who mid as well be another sister has 2 daughters.  We are the only child bearing ones left.  All his family does is bug me about having boys...  It thoroughly pisses me off because I just want healthy babies, who cares what they are.  So, to spite them and for my own surprise, they WON"T know until December!!  HAHA!!

  • There is no way I could wait to find out!!  I am happy either sex but definitely can't wait.   However I wish I could wait since we want to have more kids and this will be our first, with gender neutral it is a lot easier to reuse!

we found out and all our baby gear is neutral.  As long as you register for neutral patterns, *most* people will respect your choices Smile and if they don't return them for neutral items {;)]

I wish we could do it but I'm just not strong enough. I am way too OCD and plan everythng out. I can't wait to decorate. It would be so fun to find out in delivery though.

I LOVE that bedding!  I actually contemplated not finding out because I think it is the perfect gender neutral stuff. I like it for a boy too but I'm not sure I love it for a girl. I'm a seuss freak though.

My brother & sister-in-laws decided not to find out on their second one - I don't think I ever could!

I HAD to know for my first one.
I already have names picked out. I like to plan ahead you could say :)

    As far as bedding...
We went neutral with our daughter with a set from Target that was brown, green, and yellow which I love :)

I'd say Target, Kohl's, Burlington, all have awesome ones.

    Good Luck :)
