DH is not allowed to cook

at least not late at night and while playing Black Ops. I was woken up a little after midnight by the smell of smoke. Jumped out of bed, opened the bedroom door, and the apartment was just filled with smoke. I ran into the kitchen where DH had just taken his pot of stinkin' hard-boiled eggs off the stove...the pot that he put on the burner on high, then went and got involved in his game. So now our entire apartment stinks like smoke and eggs...nasty. And I'm pretty sure the eggs must have exploded, too, because I keep finding little pieces all over the kitchen.

Anyone else have any funny or scary cooking stories??

  • How on Earth does a pot of boiling water burn and smoke?
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • Before we were PG or married, we got home from a party and DH was drunk and not only deep fried a hot pocket, but Texas toast as well. He threw out the hot pocket but when he came into the LR & brought in the Texas toast it looked like butter on it-turns out it was the deep fryer oil Ick! Lets just say we don't have a deep fryer anymore...

DH tried to bake a cake.  A box cake.  The kind elementary school kids can figure out.  He managed to mix the batter acceptably (I'll ignore the splatter all over the kitchen from the beaters), but he put the cake in two different size and shaped pans.  His estimation of the cooking time was a wee bit off, and he didn't think to move the oven rack which was all the way at the bottom from when we cooked a large roast.  One of the cakes caught fire in the oven, and I lost my good pans.

Dang! And you didn't even get a good cake out of it.

  • DH tried to make chocolate chip cookies once. He didn't bother reading the instructions but added all the ingredients together in a bowl and then realized there were instructions. He figured he could mix everything together and it would turn out ok....um no. They were really dark and salty - not good. He's never attempted it since but made a good box cake for my bday (I did mention to him to read the box first).
