Ideas for non-baby proof houses?

We are going to be at MIL's house all weekend and it's not baby proof at all.  She has a little box of toys but DS would rather play with picture frames or books that are within reach.  Any ideas or tips for distracting him from the things he's not supposed to play with?  I feel like I'm yelling at him the whole time we're there.  TIA

  • MIL's house is like a museum, seriously.  I move the items she will break/destroy out of reach.

  • I spend a lot of time in the floor with LO so she doesn't get into trouble, pass her off to other people, and sometimes put her in a pnp. She will sometimes tolerate the pnp if she is still right in the middle of "the action."

  • i understand I bring what I can to temporarily babyproof things, and when I get there I go around the main room where my daughter will be. I bring the plug protectors and gates, etc.

My parents babyproofed their own house which was really nice, complete with doing their kitchen cabinets and everything.  We don't even see them that often but when we go we go for a long period of time.

I have the same problem and no solution. On top of not being babyproofed at all it is very dirty so I hate him being on the floor, his socks end up black. On top of that they have two dogs and dog sit constantly so there are usually at least 2-3 more random dogs in their yard or in their house. I try my hardest not to go over there, but this Saturday we have to go and I am dreading it. I feel like I will just be chasing DS the entire time. My only thought is that I'm bringing his stroller and we'll go for a walk then maybe play outside in the front yard where the dogs can't go, unless it rains then we're in trouble.
  • This is why we didn't completely baby-proof our house.  We have plug protectors in her room only and we got rid of the coffee table.  Plants, books, picture frames and everything else is still out and within touching reach at our house.  She has learned that she can't touch those things, so she doesn't usually try in my parents house and when she does, we tell her no and make her put the item back.  It's worked so far!
