getting dressed for work ... UGH!

It seems no matter how much I am buying to wear to work (business casual) ... every morning is a struggle to find something that I actually feel attractive and comfortable and professional in.

Ladies what are some good outfits for work? I seem to like dresses with flats or low heels, and cardigans, but maybe I should try something different ...

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

Re: getting dressed for work ... UGH!

  • I hear ya. I feel like I wear the same outfits all the time. I have like 5 dress slacks and 15 shirts that I rotate through. Thankfully Friday is Jean day so I can mix it up.

I love dresses, flats and cardigans!  I have 4 pair of maternity pants, and 3 of them have been feeling a little tight for the last two weeks or so.  Ugh.  They're the first ones I bought, and I guess I judged wrong when I thought that they'd be fine to last through the whole 9 months.  Ugh.  So I'm always uncomfortable when I wear them.  I can't wait until the weather warms up for good so I can start wearing dresses and skirts every day!

  • Ugh. I typed this big post for you but it didn't submit!

Anyways, to sum it up, I am in the same boat. I have all these maternity tops and dresses I've bought for work, but don't feel attractive in them now. I think the problem is they are too baggy on us now. They'll be much better later in the summer, but for now I've found that I feel much better if I wear a pre-pregnancy dress or top that's long enough on me, that way it hugs the belly. Right now I'm wearing a non-maternity stretchy cotton gray skirt. My mom gave it to me as a hand me down, it looks dressy but it's seriously like wearing sweatpants. Then a pre-pregnancy lacy silk-ish tank (hugs my belly) and a black cardigan. I didn't fool with buying maternity cardigans since I wear them open and they shouldn't be too small. Hope that helps!

  • I have gone to Value Village and gotten lots of Capris.... I find that Motherhood fits the best because there clothes are super strechy and the panel is really comfy! I have been wearing capris and umpire waist tops, with cardi's or jeans with a more fitted top... Thankfully the Canucks are in the playoffs right now and I can get away at least once a week wearing a huge Canucks t shirt and yoga pants or jeans.... takes one day a week away from what I have to think about wearing! I find all my last year sun dresses still fit (I generally have a more flowy style) but def. plan on getting a bunch more stuff in the next couple of weeks!
  • Well, I am having similar issues. Except that I am not allowed to wear dresses or skirts. I did end up speaking to my supervisor and asking if I could wear dresses with leggings under them, due to my having an extreamly limited wardrobe right now. She said ok, but that she would send me home if she felt it was "too short". Considering I would prefer all my skirts to be ankle length, I don't think she needs to worry.
  • I feel your pain. Sometimes I have to be super duper professional and that's a struggle period. I agree with Natkay too in that most of the crap I've bought is still too big to wear. I've made it through with two pairs of ankle slacks with heels and cute, but business like fitted shirts. I refuse to wear dresses or skirts yet. One, I'm as pale as I've ever been and that is doing zilch for my self esteem as I seem to balloon every day and two, I KNOW that's all I will wear allllll summer long. Once it gets hot, I seriously doubt any of us will want to wear any kind of pants or sleeves. So, I'm saving the dresses for then.

The only thing I have found that makes me feel better and not frumpy is accessories! Belts and jewelry have saved me from a total break down a few times. HA
