Help?? Sliding down the mattress...

My baby is having issues with reflux, so I put a pillow under the mattress to get the mattress at an incline (maybe 20 degrees? it is not a huge incline). My baby now makes his way down the mattress and winds up facing the wrong direction! I woke up in the middle of the night last night and he was head down (his feet were at the top of the incline.. yeah, not going to be good for reflux, and probably dangerous). Any thoughts?

Those sleep wedges seem like a waste of money for something that can be done with a pillow under the mattress, but maybe I should buy one? He sleeps way better on the incline, I'm just worried about him getting hurt.

Re: Help?? Sliding down the mattress...

  • Last night we had the same thing happen.. I used a rolled up blanket under the PNP mattress, and somehow C slid down so he was laying perpendicular to how he was at the beginning of the night (he slept 9 hours, yeah!). I'm thinking we'll try not elevating the mattress tonight and see if he has any reflux episodes. We haven't had any trouble in a while, so maybe he's outgrowing it? That'd be nice!

  • I have a sleep wedge for DD (not for reflux, just for an easier transition from the RNP (she hates being flat), and she still slides down it. I think it is more because she moves in her sleep, not because she slides. I put her to bed last night at around 9PM, I placed her in the crib so that her head toward 9 o clock position (as if I was looking at a clock). I went in to check on her around 10pm, and her head was toward the 6 o clock position (and she was off the incline). I didn't move her, and by the time she woke up for a 3AM feeding, her head was facing the 12 o clock position LOL. Maybe your LO moves like mine.

Yeah, even swaddled he is definitely a very squirmy sleeper... I just read one tip that said to put a rolled up receiving blanket under the sheet below where his feet go. Maybe I will try that? He spits up all over in his sleep when he is flat, but winding up head down on an incline seems like a choking hazard...
