Update: thoughts and prayers

She is at the hospital now doing pre op. transplant will start at 3:30 and should last about 3 hours. The donor was a 13 year girl who died from a seizure(s).

My mom could be having a kidney transplant today. She got a call this morning to head to the hospital for blood work and will know after lunch today if the donated kidney is usable. Thoughts and prayers please that the kidney can be donated and the transplant goes smoothly.

Oh wow, many many thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery! My aunt just went through this a few months ago, and while it took several days after she got the call until the transplant actually happened, it was successful and all is well!

I personally wouldn't want to know where my organ came from

. My step mom got a heart transplant and knew it came from a young dad who had committed suicide. It weighed heavily on her mind and I feel it played a huge role in her subsequent depression. Ultimately, she stopped taking her meds, thereby committing her own suicide but they passed most of it off as prednisone psychosis. I feel they didn't have near the kind of follow up care and support in 1995 as they do now. That being said, I'm happy that's family out there made such a life changing decision during their own painful time. What a huge gift to your family and plenty of others too! If I ever leave the ER, I would love to work in transplant services.
