Babywearing and carrying a diaper bag

I have a Beco Gemini, and find it hard to carry my diaper bag around too. What do you do? I dont see how getting a backpack style bag would work with this style of carrier. Right now I have a Skip Hop with a long shoulder strap. Ideas/ tips? Thank you in advance!

Re: Babywearing and carrying a diaper bag

  • I have the same carrier and bag, and I'm in MA too!  I try not to carry the diaper bag with me unless I really need it.  For instance, if we're in Target for 30 minutes I just leave it in the car.  If we're going to be walking around for a long time though, I still usually use the stroller just so I can clip the diaper bag to it.

  • I have a smaller strapped bag that I use if I need to carry my diaper bag while wearing DS.  Works a bit better.  Or, I put it in the cart if we're shopping or just leave it in the car or at home.

  • I have a Beco Butterfly II.  Like PPs I generally leave my (shoulder strap messenger style) diaper bag in the car for short trips.  This would be for anywhere that I figure I'll hold him for most of the time and won't need toys to distract him or diapers because if he poops I'll leave.  For longer trips, I bring the stroller so I can put either the diaper bag, shopping bags or DS in it as needed.  For travel, I switch to a backpack and carry it with me.

With my 2nd kid, I never carried a diaper bag on a daily basis. I stuck a diaper and wetbag in my somewhat roomy purse and called it done. For the few times I needed a diaper bag and was not taking a stroller, I had no trouble putting a bag on my shoulder on top of the ergo straps - either a regular shoulder bag or a backpack.

  • I have the Heidi diaper bag. I don't have a link, but you can google it. Its a bit pricey, but its so great for babywearing!! Its really light and the straps change so you can wear it different ways. I highly recommend it! I also have the gemini and it works great with it :)

  • I have an across the shoulder type large purse that I use, it works with my Beco, ring sling, and wrap.  I also have a diaper bag that turns into a backpack that I can wear on my back if DS is in the front and I need a bigger diaper bag.

I used a small Le Sport Sac purse as a diaper bag and throw my ID and any cards in one of the pockets.  It is light as a feather and can be strapped across me or over my shoulder, tucked under a carrier shoulder.  It is perfect!  I actually now throw that in my regular purse when I am not wearing DS but don't want to carry a diaper bag.
