An ear infection hurts all the time right?

I've been having pain and crackling sounds in one of my ears over the past week. At first I thought it was an infection but now I'm not sure that it's not just congestion from my sinuses. I've been waking up with sinus headaches and have pain in my cheeks and eys from pressure and the ear pain will subside sometimes. I haven't called my Dr. and won't unless you convince me its an infection.

  • I too have had a terrible earache for a couple days.  In fact, it's giving me a horrible headache and nausea.  But, when I put a Qtip in, I can feel a tiny little bump?!? I?m wondering if is a pimple?of course my DH is convinced it?s a wood tick?dip sh*t.  Anyway, I?m going to wait until the end of the week to see if the pain goes away.  I haven?t had an ear infection since I was little!

  • It can hurt just at night, or in the morning after lying down all night. Once the fluid drains back out of your head and the sinus pressure subsides, it can feel better. But you can have symptoms without it actually being infected anyway. Try pulling on your ear lobe a bunch and see if it "pops" and feels better.

Oh man. I've never been shot but I'm convince ear zits have to hurt worse than gun shot wounds. I've seen men take a bullet without crying in movies but bumping an ear zit brings tears to my eyes instantly.

  • It could be a sinus infection. All of that ear, nose, throat stuff is connected anyway, so a problem in one area can affect all of the others. Is your snot green?

I can't get any out. I think I have toxic sludge stuck in my head. I feel congested and know I'm having drainage in my throat but my nose is like the Sahara.

I seriously just laughed so loud at work that more than one person looked at me. You're going to get me in trouble.

  • Call your doctor now or your eardrum will explode and spray inner ear fluid all over your cashmere sweater.
  • You may have TMJ- https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tmj-disorders/DS00355/DSECTION=symptoms

I have it, and I had to go get a mouthpeice made by the dentist, since grinding your teeth in your sleep can make it worse. You can just go ro WalMart and buy one of those kits that you boil, then bite to make your own mouthpeice. It's rubbery, whereas the one the dentist made is hard plastic/resin.

ETA for spelling. If you're experiencing popping in your jaw, it's likely TMJ and not an infection. TMJ is where your jawbone rubs bone-to-bone at the connection to your skull- but it runs over the eardrum, which is what can cause the pain in your ears. I've had many ear infections and can tell you that the pain of an infection does NOT come and go. TMJ pain can and does.

  • The two can be connected. I get frequent ear infections and the pain will subside here and there and then come back. Sometimes it's a kind of pulsing pain and other times it is a pain that shoots from my ear across my face. Every time it's been diagnosed as an ear infection. Go and see your dr!

Hyfa - have you tried a neti pot (saline rinse for your sinuses)?  I was totally a skeptic but finally tried it and they work!  I have always had trouble with my ears.  Now when I have a cold coming on, I use the neti pot in the shower and it helps relieve the pressure in my ears and helps my sinuses.  I swear it has saved me from going to the dr a couple of times.  I just did this last week as I am BFing and didnt' want to take Sudafed, etc.

  • A lot of people don't realize your ears and your sinuses can really affect each other. I definitely wouldn't ignore it, I lost the hearing in my right ear because I let an infection sit too long without going to the doctor and my ear drum burst. It healed incorrectly and so I can hear very faintly, but what I do hear is so warped that if I have my left ear down to my pillow at night and Ronan cries, it sounds like I have a hornet having a seizure by my head.

: I ignored a lot of ear infections while growing up to try and avoid the medical expense for my dad... that's pretty scary. Although I have had an eardrum burst, on a plane. That sh!t fvcking hurts. Luckily I didn't lose any hearing in that ear, but I was on painkillers for a week or better.

That's pretty much why I tried to let it resolve itself too, but the infection spread to all around that ear, the entire right side of my face ended up swollen, I couldn't chew it hurt so bad, and you parts of my neck were swollen, I also could barely open my right eye. I almost passed out from the pain going down the elevator in our apartment building to meet my dad so he could take me to the doctor. We stopped at his house first and all I remember was feeling like I got shot in the side of the head and a bunch of really gross goop running out of my ear. After that I really did pass out. I have never let anything I knew was some sort of infection sit since then.

  • I think it sounds like its your sinuses. I get the same thing (except no pain) right before I'm about to get a cold and it goes away with medicine.

Does it feel better if you take sinus meds??

I would try a neti pot like pp said.. or maybe an ear candle? If it doesn't get better soon I would call the dr!
