Acne...ugh!

I am 33 years old and have struggled with acne since my early 20's. In fact, I was taking an oral antibiotic for years until I found out I was pregnant. Now, my acne has come back with a vengeance and is stressing me out! Does anyone have any OTC washes/ointments or natural remedies you recommend? I just hate to go the next 6 months looking like this...its for a good reason I know, but still.

I was using Clinique acne products until I found out that I can't use anything with salicyic acid, but I can still use their lotion and switched the toner and face wash I was using. You could also try tea tree oil (the Body Shop has a whole line of products) that I've used in the past and worked well for me. I have very oily and acne prone skin, but so far, my changes haven't made me break out like crazy.

  • Ugh, I hate my face right now! I want that pregnancy glow, and instead I have pizza face!!!
  • I know this advice is annoying but it's working for me, so here it goes: eat super healthy, drink tons of water, exercise, and wash with a mild acne cleanser morning and night. I make a baking soda and water paste once each week and it is a magic exfoliator for me. I know the hormones do jack us all up, but these steps have been keeping my acne at bay. Hang in there!
  • My mom friends turned me onto this stuff. They say it works miracles. I just started using it so I have nothing to report. It's called Belli. I bought both the scrub and the wash on Amazon. They have peppermint and cucumber and like organic ingredients in them so they're safe for pregnancy. In fact it says on the bottle, ob gyn recommended.

@mrscaterosales....Unfortunately none of that works for me...my acne has always been hormonal.....but was doing well after I went off the pill....and now I'm a wreck again....like bad....Every day I have a big painful new spot....ughh. glad something works for you....I'm holding out hope that when my hormones calm down maybe it will get a little better....I don't have nausea though so I guess that's one highlight!

I feel you...oh do I feel you. I'm 33 years old as well and have battled with adult acne most of my 20s. 2 years ago I had to go Paleo to "cure" my acne (which worked like a charm) but now being pregs I only want processed grains and dairy so some cystic acne has returned. I read that we're not supposed to use salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide and of course no oral meds, so I went to my dermo and she proscribed me a spotting cream with sulfur as the active ingredient, which so far is doing the trick. A trip to the dermo is well worth it, especially since you'll want to document this special experience! But yeah, acne blows...
  • I copied my comment from the identical thread from the OP.....just wanted you to see it!

I have always had oily skin that randomly rebels against me. I go to a medical spa regularly and it made my skin amazing! I haven't been in three months because I'm not sure what is safe or what not, but I have super sensitive skin. I use Aquanil cleanser(soap less,lipid-free, non-comedogenic, fragrance free), and DML lotion! You can look them up and buy them online. My skin DRINKS the lotion up and I can add as much as I want and it NEVER feels oily. Good luck!!!!
  • Glad to know I'm not the only 33 yr old with adult acne since me teens and a fresh bout of spots. I was really hoping the hormone changes would HELP my skin, but alas, not so. I've only been using natural products on my skin for the last year, but either way I've never found anything to make a big difference. I'll look into the stuff you guys have recommended though, it never hurts! If anyone here wants to try a really natural method that seems to help a lot of people, try washing your face with honey. Yes, honey. Especially Manuka Honey if you can spend the extra money. It's anti-bac and very calming so it's great on acne/sensitive skin. Good luck ladies!
  • I was looking in the mirror last week and realized I was looking younger. For one, I'm starting to get a healthier glow, for another I have pimply face of a pre-teen. Ugh! I find that mixing backing soda into a paste works really well when you apply it to cystic acne. I wouldn't use it all over my face since it really dried the area out.
