What time for a 3 year old birthday party?

I do realize I'm starting planning just a tad early for DD's birthday party, but I am a planner. Plus, I need to book the place now. Heh.

A handful of the kids will be close to DD's age (the rest older) so I want to make sure it's the best time frame for naps. I'm going to have it at a Pump it Up location so they'll play for about an hour, then food and presents. I was thinking 11am? Is that too late? I don't want to do late afternoon as it's going to be on a Sunday since a few of the dad's work Saturdays and we want everyone to be able to attend. Should I do 10:30? Also, it's about a 20 minute drive for everyone.

Re: What time for a 3 year old birthday party?

  • We had a back yard party with a jumpy and such, and had it at 3pm.
  • Loading the player...
  • I would try to get the earliest time available. 10:30 is better than 11:00 but the half hour wouldn't be a deal breaker.
  • When Ryan was 3, he napped around 1;30 or so.  His party was at 10:30 (we had a pancake party).
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • I would do it in the morning at 10 if possible.

  • Yey for Sunday parties. I love Sun parties (since everything else, plus classes are always only on Saturdays :( )

I also prefer mornings. Best mood, most predictable in terms of being awake too.

  • If someone else is doing your prep so all you have to do is show up, then morning is good.  Are you going to serve food?  If not, don't go early than 10:30 or so.  If so, I think you can go earlier if it works for you.

And not that you've brought this up, I feel like a slacker because I have so not planned DS party yet.  The clock is ticking!

  • We did 3 parties this weekend and I much prefer the 10:30 or 11am to the afternoons. The afternoons are hit and miss with naps and his mood and I know many of my son's friends are the same way.
  • Morning - earlier the better. We could do an 11 am party, but that gets close to lunch, nap, and a cranky boy for us.
