FAIL.

1st attempt at nap time in the crib is a huge, great big, stinking failure He's only getting up to eat once a night now, so we are trying to transition him to his crib. I rocked him to sleep, turned on his seahorse and put him in the crib. As soon as the seahorse stops playing, he's up and crying. Well, now he's not, but I can hear and see him scooting around and whimpering every so often on the monitor. How can I make sleeping in the crib more appealing to him?

Re: FAIL.

  • I wish I could help-- but I will be following the answers for this.  H will only sleep in her RnP (the PnP and the crib were major fails).

  • Did you try something to make the sheets warm before putting him down? That might help.

Actually, 10 minutes after I posted this, he fell asleep. I did forget that I had the heating pad in there for warming up the sheets. After 2 rounds of the seahorse, he fussed for a minute and passed out. I did put his bink in, which he didn't want the first time. Maybe that helped?

  • Is he swaddled so he doesn't wake himself up?  That is the only way our baby will fall and stay asleep in his crib, but he sleeps great, 4-5 hours at a time at night!

  • I second the swaddling.  We only do it at night in hopes of it being part of his "routine" but if he's really fighting sleep I'll swaddle him for naps.  Also, we put a small rolled blanket on each side of his belly/legs, like a LO hot dog.  They did this in the hospital and we got in the habit of doing it at home.  I think it decreases the vastness of the crib from his angle...
