Pregnant after a Loss

sh*t (stopped progesterone and spotting)

I really felt like it was too early for me to stop taking the progesterone. My RE wanted me to stop at 8 weeks but agreed to let me take it until 10. I took my last one Friday night and now I'm spotting. I felt like something bad was going to happen when I stopped it. My OB just called me back and said that if it stays the way it is, to call in the morning and they'll tell me where to go for an ultrasound. If it gets worse, to call her back and go to the ER. I'm so scared for my babies Sad

T&P heading your way. I don't have experience with progesterone but I feel like someone else posted not too long ago about spotting when they went off it. Either way, I hope that things clear up today. I'll be thinking of you and your LOs.

I'm so sorry for the stress!! I will be thinking of you and your babies! Today is my first day without my progesterone and I am terrified. My RE said to stop at 10 weeks but I had enough for 11 weeks so he said I could take it but ensured me it wasn't necessary! I hope the spotting stops soon!!

She didn't say to. I wanted to ask her but I was so flustered on the phone that I didn't remember until I hung up.

I did IVF so my ovaries weren't producing progesterone at all. The supps were the only thing supporting the pregnancy until the placentas take over. My RE said that would have happened already but others say it doesn't fully happen until 12 weeks.

  • When I stopped Progestrogne I was spotting brown. My doctor told me it was "normal" because it was just my body trying to kick into gear and process it on my own.

But I hope you get some answers T&P's being sent.

  • Sorry, jumping over from PAL

Most doctors I've talked to have said the placenta takes over around 10 weeks. I believe a few of the girls on PAL also had some spotting when they went off, feel free to pop over and ask! As difficult as it is remember that stress is worse for you, try to stay semi-calm & enjoy your day!

    Much Love~

*lkstor* is a Dr. on PAL and would most likely be able to help you

Do you have anymore? Can you start taking it again until you see your doctor?

    T&Ps.

Yes. I took another one about 45 minutes ago. I think I'm going to ask her if I can wean off. I was on 3/day so I'm going to see if she'll let me do 2/day this week and 1/day next week.

  • I know it won't make you feel any better, but my RE said it is common to spot when you stop progesterone.  He has me tapering my dose to try to prevent that, could you maybe ask your doc if that might help?  I can only imagine how terrifying that must be, but I bet it is just from the progesterone withdrawl.  ((HUGS))

ETA I see you are going to ask about weaning off.  Good luck hun!

I hope you and the little ones are ok! Let us know what happens tomorrow and try to just relax tonight (as in sit, I know you won't be able to relax). I hope everything is ok and like others said it is common to spot after stopping. I was also told to stop at 10 weeks, but had enough to wean myself until 11 weeks.

  • I also weaned off it, I went from twice a day to once a day for a week before stopping...my Dr said I could go right off of it, but weaning gave me a little more piece of mind so he agreed to it. Thinking of you and I hope the spotting stops!
