What's your favorite baby gifts...

I am having a hard time with this lately!  I have to pick out a few more in the next few weeks..  Thanks!

Re: What's your favorite baby gifts...

  • Diapers, wipes, baby wash/lotion, hooded towel and washcloths all inside an infant tub??  I like to give (and get) useful things like that.  I actually put together a gift similar to this for my cousin whose shower is tomorrow.  She didn't really register for any gear, and just had tons of clothes and blankets on her registry.  I know she'll end up with a ton of that stuff anyway, so I went the diapers and bath stuff route.

If the person has registered for one, I like to give the bouncer b/c I know it's something they want and it's usually in my price range.

This, for the most part. I know how much we loved getting diapers, especially. They're just so darn expensive, and one of those things that aren't *fun* to go shopping for. Also, if it's their first baby and they are registered, anything off their registry that is in your price range would be nice. They registered for it for a reason, right?

If they have a registry, I always buy something off of it that's in my price range.  Then I usually include an outfit because I am a sucker for cute baby clothes.  If they don't have a registry, I stick to the basics like PP.  If I plan on spending a little more, I'll get them a Miracle blanket with a note tucked inside telling them how it was a lifesaver for us!

  • After baby is born this is my favortite gift to buy: https://www.craftefamily.com/baby_gifts/baby_block_personalized.asp

It's inexpensive, ships very quickly and is even more beautiful in person. It was one of my very favorite gifts a friend got from DS. Everyone whom I've gotten one for just raves about them.

  • I also like to give essentials of things that might not be fun but is needed. I usually do a small diaper cake and put on some of the green soothie pacifiers, saline drops, infant tylenol, baby socks that I know from experience actually stay on (Walmart has these infant bobby socks by faded glory that stay on even Nicholas who has the smallest and most narrow feet of any kid I've ever seen) and then a few fun things like the little crinkle bracelet thingys, etc. I also usually buy a refill pack of wipes and that goes up the middle of the diaper cake.

Something less complicated/crafty is good swaddle blankets, humidifier, good diaper cream (aquaphor or butt paste are my preference)....stuff that you dont really think about needing until you REALLY need it if you know what I mean.

  • As the mother of a son, I cannot help myself but buy at least one girly cute gift for friends expecting girls...my go to gift is mary jane socks by Trumpette.  I like to also buy the super practical stuff that isn't fun at all because other people aren't likely to buy it and then they have it when you need it...like infant Tylenol, gas drops, ear cleaners, orajel, Aquaphor. And books are always good.
  • If I'm not buying off the registry or there is no registry, I like to get a few of the things I really loved when Ellie was a baby: things like the Kiddopotamus reusable placemat I loved, Snacktraps, the Munchkin duck tub. Things I used a lot but you might not think to register for.

  • I've recently been giving my closest friends who have been expecting the following:

Adan and Anais muslin swaddle blankets (They are so soft and have many uses.)

Cloud B Soothing Sounds Giraffe (Someone gave this to me as a gift and the mother's heartbeat sound was a lifesaver at getting my daughter to sleep.)

A newborn hat that I knit from really soft organic cotton yarn (I can turn one out in an hour using a knitting loom.)

I also give a onesie with a periodic table on it from Cafe Press because most of my friends are chemists or are married to chemists.

I stuff all of the gifts in a basket or tote that can be used for toys, baby supplies, or laundry.

I'm glad you mentioned this!  I always do this too...I hate to waste all that paper on gifts and those little plastic totes come in so handy with a kid (and sometimes are cheaper than what you'd spend on a gift bag!).

We got one of these when Griffin was born and I LOVE it!  I'm glad you posted this because I would love to get one for this baby too if we don't receive one as a gift.

Did anyone mention a sophie the giraffe?  We didn't have one for Griffin, but will definitely be getting one for this baby!
