Everyone seems to be posting about homemade cloth wipes or where they buy them, but this confuses me. We have always just used face cloths for babies that we buy in a bundle of 24 for 2.00. Why do you need something special?
Washcloths/facecloths are generally made of Terry cloth - which can be rough on babies. Cloth wipes are made of tons of materials - flannel, bamboo velour, cotton velour, things like that that are soft but scrubby at the same time. Plus they come in cute prints - furthering the cute print craze of the mommas

Thanks! That makes sense
The face cloths we are using don't seem to bother her bum so I think I will just keep using them for now, but will change if they seem to be too rough in the future.
I've got a mix of everything to see what works for us, but I think babies get used to whatever you use, they don't know differently if you use the same thing every day, you know?

Thanks! This is true..they seem to be pretty adaptable
Before I started sewing, I used those Gerber washcloths for cloth wipes... they work great, but I think it was about $4 for 8 of them. So, it's a lot cheaper to sew them myself.
If I could find a bundle of 24 face cloths for $2, I wouldn't make my own wipes! Where do you find them for that price?
ETA: Oh, and I use terry cloth on my own cloth wipes. It works great, and is not too rough on DS's bottom.
Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)
I hate the little baby washcloths. They are incredibly thin and horrible at cleaning up peanut butter poo. As my BIL says, "I might as well just use my hand."
I made double sided wipes (that will be great rags, later) - They are 9"x9", one side repurposed flannel and they other side terry cloth.
If i could have found washcloths that cheap I wouldn't have made them! Mine were like $2 for 6 or something. I made some with terry cloth and cotton fabric, I won a dozen free ones from monkey snuggles and I bought some GM ones. I still have some wash cloths in the mix too, but they are not as thick as the others.

I bought them at Winners (do you have that in the United States?)
They are thin for the peanut butter type poops and I end up using 4 or 5 LOL but for now they work fine (maybe not when she gets bigger and is eating solids...)
