Ugh MIL vent. NBR

My name is Alexandra. I have always been Alexandra to everyone. My MIL insists on calling me Alex. I hate it (nothing against the nn, but it's not my name). DH has told her a hundred times and she still calls me Alex. she says it's too hard to switch. Well, it wouldn't be that hard to switch if you had just called me by my name in the first place. If we had an otherwise fine relationship I'm sure this wouldn't bother me so much, but she's so self-centered and a royal PITA as it is, this is just one more thing that annoys me. I'm going to stop responding to anything when she calls me Alex.

  • I have the same issue.  I am Jennifer or Jenni, never Jen; however, people insist on calling me Jen and it drives me nuts.

  • I'm Candace.  I get Candy all the time.  Cute nn for some, but totally NMS.  I feel your pain.

  • I will admit I am the worst when it comes to shortening people's names.  I won't do it if I know someone doesn't like to be called the shortened version, but I find myself doing it without thinking first.  I think I started doing it when I started coaching just to be able to yell things out quickly while girls were on the court, but it transferred to all other areas of my life and it's not good.  I will start to concentrate on not doing it as much.
  • I always call people by their real name.  I don't do nicknames unless the person specifically tells me they'd rather be called by a nickname.  I hate it when people take it upon themselves to make up a nickname for you.  My name is Monica, thankfully there really isn't a nickname for that!Stick out tongue
