The PIO shots are terrible this time. The knots and the bruising are coming after every shot. We warm the injection site and the liquid. And massage after. My DH says my skin is "tough" too. Anyone else?? Any advice??? Please!

Re: The knots and the bruising!!! Terrible!!
I've been on PIO, basically, for a year. uugh.
It wasn't until they accidently switched me to SESAME SEED OIL (vs. ethyl oleate) did the lumps lessen.
I shoot myself in the side hip area. and have found that if I go SLOW, and pull the needle out halfway when done, pause, then all the way out, I don't even bleed. I give it a good rub afterwards, and I have hardly any lumps anymore.
Although EMLA cream is fine, it's TOTALLY unncessary as far as lumps, it's just a numbing agent for that little stick in the beginning. ;-)
switch to sesame, I'm telling ya!
Davez is tougher than me
I wish I had advice, but I had the same problem. By the end of PIO DH almost had to strap me down because I'd go into a panic attack. It was that bad. I had lumps the size of dinner plates. I had horrible bruises. It hurt if my hip brushed anything. I couldn't sleep on my side. I even had peeling skin over some of the lumps.
And I did everything: warmed the oil, warmed my butt, massaged, moved around afterwards... I had a nurse friend of my mom's do one of the shots when I was visiting her without DH and he was all frowny about my bruises too. When I asked the RE about it when I was released he told me it was a little abnormal but was probably a trauma reaction from being stuck so many times.
In my case, the originally had me on 2ccs, and when my insurance didn't want to pay for two sets a month I had them up the concentration, which helped some but the damage was done by then.
My Re doesn't do PIO anymore.
