Problems transitioning from bottle to sippy

So we introduced sippy cups way back at 8 months. Joey caught on pretty quickly and does great with both the sippy and straw cups. Henry on the other hand, not so much. I swear, that kid is going to have to take his bottles to college with him. :)

It's not so much that he refuses the sippy or the straw, but he just cannot successfully drink from them. Everything just dribbles right out of his mouth and all over his clothes. The only way I can kinda get him to drink out of a straw is to let him only take one sip at a time and then pull the straw out of his mouth right away.

Any advice on how I can get him to drink out of a sippy cup? I feel like he's not getting very many fluids b/c I don't really give him water or juice in a bottle, just milk.

TIA!

Re: Problems transitioning from bottle to sippy

  • Are you using the sippy cups that have the extra valve thing in there?  It makes it so they have to suck harder to get the liquid out, versus it just kind of dribbling out of the cup before they are ready.  Either that or try one of the early stages of the Nuby cup?  Just some thoughts....good luck!

  • I skipped sippy cups and went straight to straw cups.  It took my girls a bit of practice, but they eventually got out.  I would use the straw to put a little water in their mouth so they could get the idea.  Eventually they figured it out!
